2012 Line-up
Imposing a no bad kicks allowed rule, the likes of Gram, Gilbert, Jones, Blake are gone. In their place, a few fanciful hopes of guys coming through, but, anyway, what do people reckon:
Ledger Dawson Gwilt
Winmar Fisher Clarke
Steven Montagna Peake
Siposs Reiwoldt Schneider
Milne Walsh Cripps
McEvoy, Dal Santo, Hayes
Stanley, Dempster, Goddard
Sub: Armitage

Some ordinary kicks can be carried if they offer other valuable qualities (and aren't actually TOO bad at kicking). Winmar and Stanley both look a mile off but hopefully a new coach will help grow rather than stifle them.

Re: 2012 Line-up
Blake gone? Not worth reading on. But if you did read on, one would have to ask, how many times have you seen Winmar kick a ball? Have you seen Peake kick at all? Then there is Roo's kicking. Worst of all reading the whole post would allow us to see that you can't even spell our captain's name. If you read a bit above you'd see a note about REIOUVOILDT's kicking. Did I spell it right?
Anyway, his field kicking is beautiful, his whole ground level game improved immensely in 09.
I don't put him in the bad kicking skills basket, as I believe he uses the ball well, notwithstanding his set shots on goal this year and in a couple years gone by.
Peake's a great kick of the ball, as has been discussed, provided he's kicking it either long or very short, but not in between.
You don't reckon Winmar's a nice kick? Gee whizz, you're a tough judge.
And you're happy enough I left Kozi out but not Blake? I think Blake still has a role to play at the club and on the list and in the emergency list. But I reckon time has come to move toward an emphasis on skills, because that is where I see the game going, as teams try to beat the press.

Assuming this is a Round 1, 2012 team....
B: Geary, Simpkin, Blake
HB: Dal Santo, Fisher, Gilbert
C: Montagna, Hayes, Clarke
HF: Schneider, Roo, Steven
F: Milne, Kosi, Siposs
Foll: McEvoy, Goddard, Dempster
Int: Armitage, Peake, Cripps
Sub: Ledger
Gwilt comes back into the side at the halfway mark of the year, with either Blake or Simpkin making way.
I think Dawson is on the way out. He probably has more value than we can offer him, especially if the "salary cap full" story is correct. Would be a good fit for GWS, but we would be poorer for it, despite the opinions on here!!!
The go-home factor, and the chance to work under RL again, will see CJ head back to Freo, meaning Dempster will become our No. 1 stopper, and therefore starts in the centre.
Pushing Dal back to the half back line will generate some better delivery from there. Moving Clarke onto a wing is a positive move, because he is one guy who, this season at least, moved the ball forwards, not chipping around behind him.
I don't think I forgot anyone???

No we shouldnt
Been down that road.....not sure any draft picks would be ready by 2012
I have gilbert traded for pick 20 odd and that about it....
I really rate ledger and believe his output at sandy and stk was stronger than cripps....i rate him higher by a bit....reminds me of a younger joey...
Cripps was handy...got a few joe the gooses.....didnt really impact through the middle
Siposs is important for structure and delivery

Strong forward line there Marto. Certainly would take the pressure off Riewoldt.BigMart wrote:B: simpkin (gwilt)........dawson........dempster

A team for 2012 assuming all are fit and healthy. 3 new players who were trialled this year and who after another pre season should be regulars. Cripps, Ledger and Siposs. Cripps was recruited as a running defender and we need one who can kick well so play him there. So the team is;
Dempster Dawson Gilbert
Cripps Fisher Gwilt/Blake
Goddard Hayes Montagna
Steven Riewoldt Schneider
Siposs Koschitzke Milne
Mc Evoy Jones Dal Santo
Ray Ledger Gram Clarke
Back up players; Walsh, Armitage, Stanley, Lynch, Peake, Simpkin, Polo
Like any team, it only takes a couple of young players to step up to improve a team. If you recall 2004, we had some young guys who started performing at a high level and the team improved substantially.
We have the players to finish top 4 in 2012 if we have a good run with injuries as we did in 2009.
Beyond 2014 looks a bit scary as we will probably lose Hayes, Milne, Blake, Kossie, Riewoldt and Fisher to age and Dal Santo, Dempster, Gram, Jones, Montagna, Peake, and Schnieder wil be 30ish or gone already. Hopefully some of this group can play good footy into their mid 30's.
We can not expect to pick up 13 regular AFL players from the draft in 2 or 3 drafts so some aggressive trading is required.

IF all fit and available
B: Gwilt, Dawson, Dempster
HB: Gram, Roo, Clarke
C: Montagna, Hayes, Peake
HF: Siposs, Fisher, Armitage
F:Milne, Kosi, Steven
Foll: McEvoy, Dal Santo, Goddard
Int: Walsh, Cripps, Jones, Schneider
I would make available for trade:
Gilbert - GWS for a talented 17 year old
Roo to CHB where he can use his run as an asset with space. Alternative he needs to bulk up 5k due to the more one on one type of game being played.

Or we could change the way we play to suit our players.....and utilise their talents....and not try and copy a team of different players...
Trick is....to devise a game plan that beats the press....not just implement a press and hope to do it better than a team thats been doing it for 18 months
Nick is a best and fairest and all australin multiple
As is sam fisher
I think tjey have proven themselves handy in their roles
