SB: Do you say that Fremantle are now at a more advanced development stage to St Kilda?
RL: I want to be really clear here, it wasn't the motivation. There was an assertion that I left because they were closer to a premiership, that wasn't the decision. I don't think they (St Kilda) are going anywhere for a little while, if it's done correctly.
But I thought it was the end of an era?

Ross' money management issues raises much deeper questions.
It appears (unless he is "Lyin") that he had thrown most of his wealth into one mining company.
That breaks all the laws of sensible investing which is about diversification and risk management.
If his investment strategy was that shallow, ill-conceived and "all in the one basket",
does he have the capacity to develop balanced coaching strategies?
No wonder we never had a Plan B !

It doesn't look like anyone has uploaded the whole interview from the WA paper?

If you can stomach it, theres a video interview on the dockers website in his purple shirt
Funny, you mention PR about the family photo's, he is expanding on how it all started and his 'human' side...never opened up at the Saints for whatever reason?

The bad investment decisions that led to Ross Lyonleaving the Saints are revealed in the following article **satire alert** http://thewhitemaggot.com/2011/09/19/ro ... exclusive/
I still can't believe the ball bounced over Jamie Shanahan's head into Darren Jarman's lap 4 times in one half of footy... kills me...

are you taking the pi$$ old mate? This is a puff piece designed to earn sympathy and create a "human side" - probably initiated by a PR firm.Old Mate wrote:He's an excellent family manspert wrote:Not a bloke I would go to war with..Old Mate wrote:He was backing two horses and Freo won. He was looking after his own financial security for him and his family. Good bloke imo.
The bloke dealt behind the saints and his own mgt back to get more cash plain and simple.
His integrity is screwed and how can the Dockers players now buy in to this bloke?
he can no longer use the "what do we stand for?" line and he can no longer use his "wrong side of the tracks working class Reservoir boy" crap.
His myth is busted.

Actually this move says alot about his interest in the share market.
As a 'career coach'
He assessed his value at the end of 3 years with St Kilda, compared to that of a Freo / Melb type situation.
If you were a prospective coach, and I gave you a choice of Freo/Saints after 3-4 years, well you'd probably pick St Kilda because by that stage they'd likely be in a similar position to Freo now with an abundance of kids with games under their belt.
If you were a career coach looking to get a new contract, you would probably pick Freo because they are likely to enjoy a period of sustained success over the next few years.
He will likely try the market at the end of his tenure at Freo.

You talk about building trust in the football team and trust is fundamental to any human relationship.
What I stand for now, personally and from what I've learnt, is about players taking the risk.
At no stage have I said I was going to do something that I haven't done, so I'm really comfortable.
I like honesty, I like consistency in relationships. I really mix with people who, fundamentally, you can trust.
Pull the other one!
