My mail suggests Peter Carey isnt related to Cameron Cloke. That is as funny as you suggesting you are a lawyer when you actually clean law courts.

So if that is correct he still could be the best coach out there though.

Btw I'm not saying he is.

If the doggies picked a bloke who never played AFL over a favourite son then there must be a question mark on him. And I'm not bagging McCartney in saying that.

I don't think too many clubs would choose Harvey if we didn't appoint him.

Buyer beware I say.

What does that mean

'his own team' ???

Did he have ownership at the dogs?? Does he have part owneship at the tigers.....because he played there too...

It means absolutely FA whether someone played at the club they applied for.....this is not suburbian footy plugger....is it??

Sanderson missed out at Geelong.....is he poor because of that, or unlucky.....who knows?? Adelaide still hired him...

Maybe McCartney was a better fit for the dogs??

Longmire was overlooked five years ago for lyon....pulled his pants down a few weeks ago

Just because the Dogs didn't pick him doesn't mean much imo.

McCartney may be a better fit for where the dogs are at.

Doesn't mean he's potentially a better coach.

The fact is no one knows who is a better coach, even when they've been coaching for a while... hence the brawls we've had on here.

Different list, club, enviroment, budget all makes a difference.

Personality, experience, profile, media nous, are all factors also.

So realistically I don't know myself.

That said he's never been involved in a premiership in any way so that in itself would rule him out.

The only rumours i have heard are that MM will be in the media FT next year. I couldnt imagine him being second fiddle to anyone.

plenty of rumours doing the rounds, I guess 95% of them are BS and 5% have a kernel of truth.

3 weeks ago apparently lyon was signed sealed and delivered to Melbourne....

Chris Grant had a few interesting things to say on Grandstand today about the coach selection process at the Bulldogs. Apparently it was an extremely close run thing. He mentioned that three of the candidates were outstanding - including Cameron - but that McCartney had the edge in his ability to 'teach the game to young men' (how he determined that from an interview, I'm not quite sure).

Whether it was spin or not, he sounded genuine, and I don't think Leon Cameron should be ruled out simply because he missed the Dog's job. It sounds like the Dogs were after a specific coach for their needs and they got their man.

Lets mimic geelong and scott appointment

Post: # 1150191Post Megamaguire »

"Groupie1" said Scott at Geelong came in, said he liked 90% of what they did, worked on improving the 10% he didn't like... absolutely regenerated them. A coach well picked. If our board is worth its salt, it will seek a coach not through a paradigm of experience or premierships won, but a coach like Scott - come in, recognise the team is quite good, identify 10% he doesn't like, and have the skills... to fix it.

Appointment by quality, rather than credentials. The board did well to appoint RL. Hopefully this one is as effective.[/quote]

Very good points Groupie 1. The structures this team learnt and delivered was in itself a great achievement and commitment by this team to adjust to the Lyon style of game.

Looking at the team in a very simplistic way over the last few years i always thought if only our players that regularly kicked for goal were a bit more accurate we would be a 2 or 3 -time premiership winning club.. If St. Kilda could somehow keep the bulk of their defensiveexpertise while significantly improve the goalkicking we could emulate the great response of geelong to loosing their coach. I hope our club look much more closely at player development a la geelong.

Who the best Scott -like appointment is i don't know but i hope the board do.
GO SAINTS!

The boy can play and we can build a defence around him that will have respect.
