Re: Ross joins this handy team
i'd probably start winmar on the wing ahead of rice. and i'm not sure you can really count black, o'brien or fletcher, considering we traded for them in the first place. not exactly home-grown heroes.

For the sake of consistency, the following four players should not be on the list: Craig O'Brien, Dale Kickett, Adrian Fletcher and Heath Black, who all left former clubs to come to us. Putting Matthew Carr into any team, other than the worst ever, is also a mistake. Five or six on the list went for more money and the rest were told that there were not wanted.
I considered what they acheived after they left......pretty sure people would have understood that...
Winmar played 21 games in 1999 for the bulldogs
Rice......118....premiership player
Fletcher......186.....best and fairest
O.Brien......41 games....59 goals
Point of the post
Some pretty handy people have walked out......
Not as many as fitzroy....but not far off

Yep every club would be the same. Look at the pies this year. They may be getting rid of a coach who has won the last premierships.BigMart wrote:I considered what they acheived after they left......pretty sure people would have understood that...

Not sure what impact Devonport and Goose have had at their new clubs apart from adding to their games tally.BigMart wrote:For the sake of consistency
These are all players who left stk and went somewhere else and made an impact...
Matthew Carr played 134 games after he left stk.....not too bad....6th in the best and fairest twice....
You made a statement plugger
Every club would be the same.........did you actually think about that.....or just blurt it.....
as i said.....fitzroy let go a premiership team in the mid 90's alone
But no team has had the following walk away and acheive this at their new clubs
Dual coleman and best and fairest
Leigh matthew trophy and three premierships
Coach of three premierships
All australian times 3....captain of premiership team
Brownlow medal and premiership medal
Not sure that can be topped

I stand by what I say and I still dont the point of this thread. When was the last time a maybe 2 time premiership coach was basically sacked in his next year?BigMart wrote:You made a statement plugger

Pretty valid point....
Two actually
1....as yet another star walks out the doors for a better offer and better opportunity it is very relevent to now....
2.....demonstrating we have a rich history in losing serious talent out of tje club....and asking the question why??
Sure you would have worked that out??
and if you 'suggest' every club would be the same....do some research and prove your point ...... Take carlton for example......
And adding to ones games tally is not significant??
Must have done something right to get a game......davonport did make tje mistake of going to perhaps one of tje strongest sides in football history...

I could do about 5 Carton players who all one flags and just came to us. Sheldon, Jezza, Marcou, McConville, Koukamelis. That took 10 seconds and I have hardly any idea of their history.BigMart wrote:Pretty valid point....

You missed the point.....gone straight over your head
Players who left and enhanced of furthered their careers.....went on to bigger and better (or equal) things....
Not retirement packages
Your list of carlton players are of guys....btw add wow jones....who were in the reserves when they left....
Most were a part of a reserves premiership before coming to stk...
They were let go.....they did not walk....

carl
Ditterich spent three reasonable years and couple of waning seasons at melbourne......everitt had two quality years at hawthorn and 1 excellent year at sydney......
Played 6 seasons and 100 games are choosing to exit stkilda
Dotterich 5 seasons and 80 Games...
So not much in it......eveitt was close to the best ruckman in the afl in 2003/4

I knew the list I came up with would be wrong in your opinion. And I must have missed Gooses good games the year before he left. Can you tell me of the players i mentioned who played in the reserves premiership? Yep and Nicky was going very well before he left. He actually left because we didnt want him anymore because his time was up. I am sure will have reasons though why those players can be in and the ones I mentioned cant.BigMart wrote:You missed the point.....gone straight over your head

He was a shell of player that he was, to suggest he went on to bigger things is absolutely ridiculous…
In 21 games he had 10 touches or less in 12 outings…
Bit like saying Dermie went on to better footy with the Swans and Pies, to think that guy had the gall to say that Banger went on too long…
You could put together just as many players that walked out and didn't go anywhere - Knobel, Ackland & Black for starters…
Or players that improved after they came to the Saints like Gram, Gherig & Ray

Nicky was in great form before he left. Named by the club among St Kilda's best in 16 of the 24 games we played that year. A disgrace that he was dumped.plugger66 wrote: Yep and Nicky was going very well before he left. He actually left because we didnt want him anymore because his time was up.
Old enough to repaint, but young enough to sell
Ins
Hamill, lawrence, gehrig, ackland, dempster, schnieder, gehrig, h.black, dawson, knobel, gram, ray, gardiner, king, polo, fletcher, kickett, Guerra, birss, morwood, foschini, max crowe, hunt, mark scott.......plenty of others we have picked up, via trades
Not the big fish that we have lost.....but we have picked up plenty....
Many gop's who have done ok for a few years......ie/ matty young...
Gehrig would be the big fish we have landed......and probably balances out Barry Hall.....similar abilities when they left....and got two similar levels...
You could argue gehrig was better at wce as he was an all aust...and hall ended up better....with the captaincy of a premiership and a b&f
I forgot Guerra on my initial list
