Funny that. Used to be one of my fave shows and ironically have previously worked in a prison, yes Barwon and no, not as an inmate.Dr Spaceman wrote:Well to be fair, there's little else to doArmoooo wrote:A collingwood supporter posting a story about Essendon on a St Kilda forum... At least Heath Shaw admitted to what he had done.
Wallis apparently lied until they produced video footage.
So I reckon he got off lightly in the end.
Whilst I don't like Heath Shaw.
I think he has a flawed character.
And I pretty much hate his entire family!!!!
And I despise gambling.
And resent how the AFL are constantly allowing gambling promotions and odds to shoved down our throats.
Despite all that I think Heath was harshly dealt with.
Yes if he had placed a bet for $1000 or more at long odds then I could understand him being totally compromised.
But a $10 bet from someone probably earning $500,000.
That is hardly going to influence his thinking or behaviour.
It was clearly just a joke bet put on for a bit of fun as opposed to a corrupt insider plot to rort the system.
Yes I know it is about the principle.
But I would have thought 2 weeks and a small fine would have been enough.

The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.

That was incredible.
GT really went out on a limb.
He almost got emotional.
Spoke at length about what a great guy Wallis is, a great family man,
"You just couldn't get anyone straighter".
Perhaps he was just reading from Sheedy's old reference!

I would have thought DOUBLE THAT (2 yrs) and $20,000 would have been appropriate when compared to the Heath Shaw incident !!BigMart wrote:Baker would have got the chair.....wallis is just lucky he didnt get caught whilst being at stk....

When I was living in Darwin I was working on a charter boat at one stage. Wallis came out one day with his wife and kids during the spilt round.Enrico_Misso wrote:YeahJacks Back wrote:Ha ha. I thought I won't bombard him with footy questions all day,so I waited until late in the arvo. I asked him if it was good to get away from footy for the weekend, when his wife butted in immediatly and said "oh no we're from Sydney you must have the wrong person!" ..whilst Wallace just looked at me with a wry smile. I said you're Dean Wallis aren't you? He said "nah mate I'm from Sydney". His kids had Essendon stickers all over there bags. His wife must of put the foot down and said there is no to be zero footy talk on this trip. Fair enough, but didn't have to tell a blatant lie about it and make me look like a f-wit in front of the other punters.
Later on when they got wind I was from Melbourne they started asking me questions about why I moved up there etc,I gave them nothing.
Bring back the Lockett era

Interesting what happens to the Bock investigation...the 'allegation' is a far more serious one than a stupid pub punt...In that case - one can easily assume - inside information was leaked and that info was acted upon...The AFL lovechild needs to remain squeaky clean...We'll see...Will be interesting...
"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'
