Saints quarter by quarter stats 2011 h&a
Saints are ranked 1 for winning the first quarter (won 78% of them)
Saints are ranked 10 for winning the second quarter (won 45% of them)
Saints are ranked 12 for wining the 3rd quarter (won 45 % of them)
Saints are ranked 6 for wining the 4th quarter (won 60 % of them)
Average scores per quarter (probably a bit skewed because of 1 sided games)
saints v opposition
24 v 16
20 v 23
19 v 19.5
23 v 18.5
We certainly seem to be fast out of the blocks with a really high rate of 1st quarter wins, let the opposition back in 2nd and 3rd (especially the 2nd quarter), and then fight back in the last (probably when the game is more or less over)
Call me captain obvious but that is our season as a whole
Geelong for example are ranked
12th for 1st quarter wins
3rd for 2nd quarter wins
1st for 3rd quarter wins
1st for 4th quarter wins
Anyways, found it intersting,

much better thread than 'please ross don't go!'
anyway - second quarters are shockers, i've even not watched a few - gone off to do some work and returned in the second half.
but i am curious -when we have a poor first quarter, is our second quarter better than normal. i would say yes from memory.
but if anyone knows it'd be interesting to see.
would support my belief we play much better under pressure, almost need that extra pressure to start firing.

Close. Two goalless. 0.2.2. in both the 2010 GF Replay and the 2009 Prelim.OneEyedSainter77 wrote:Including three goalless first quarters (unless I'm mistaken)Beno88 wrote:Hopefully we continue that first quarter form in the finals. Our first quarters in finals have been terrible over the past 3 seasons.
We've won 3 of 10 with a percentage of 66.
And three times we've kicked just one.
1.5.11. 2010 Prelim.
1.2.8. 2009 Qualifying.
1.1.7. 2008 Qualifying.

72 point differential over the last three years.
I was wrong too, only two goalless first quarters BUT FIVE of those ten were 1 goal or less. The most we kicked ever was 4.
On the flip side, the most we conceded was also 4.

Nine times this year we have conceded 1 or less goals in first quarters.
Three times we have held them gollaess (Geelong rd 1, Freo rd 10, WCE rd 17) and only twice did we kick one or less goals (one goalless against Adelaide)
We had a hell of a lot of quarters where we held the opposition goalless, we have over the last few years.
I would wager more than any other team since and including 2009
Unfortunately we have also had a few goalless quarters since then ourselves, namely two in finals 2009 and two more in finals 2010.
