Not sure I trust it, but Ross offered 2 years?
If true, can I say that is disappointing by the club?
There is three clubs looking for coaches, and he is reportedly being offered big money and stability from some.
I reckon a 2 year deal is foolish, loyalty works both ways.

ST KILDA coach Ross Lyon has told his players there is no chance of him walking away from the club despite serious offers for him to revive ailing Melbourne.
Saints’ ruckman Jason Blake revealed that Lyon had immediately addressed his players when speculation arose that he had been offered a massive deal to join the Demons as they attempt to rebuild following the departure of Dean Bailey.
And as the Saints contemplate the achievement of coming from a record of one win in the first seven games to host a final against Sydney next week, Blake said the push to September was bolstered by the Saints coach saying he was committed to the cause.
“He addressed it straight after and told us it was not true – we front up all those things in the media so there is no grey area,â€

I'm with you.Eastern wrote:If it's a 2 year extention to his current contract, it effectively becomes a 3 year contract taking him up to the end of the 2014 season. If that's the case, it sounds like a win-win to me !!
Offering a coach a 2 year extension to a deal with one year remaining is a fair show of faith.
Nothing wrong with Lyon pushing for a further year but further nothing wrong with the club meeting him only 75% of the way there.
Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friends.

It's a shame ignorance isn't painful
I think they are having 2 bob each way as in one part they clearly say a 2 yr extension & in another a 2 year deal. I'm prepared to believe/hope that it is the 'extension' rather than the 'deal" tho.SainterK wrote:Karnaby, I took that article to be offering him a contract until the end of 2013, but probably on a new salary structure making his current 2012 contract void?
I expect that the journo knows as much about it as we do, ie - sfa

I can tell you now it's friggin bullsh!t that Chris Pelchen would be driving any decison about what extension he gets. At the very least, the board would have to approve this and they would have a huge say in how long the contrtact would be.
I have no issue with three years. It's long enough IMO.

2 more years to 2014 I'd beleive - particularly if it involves a decent pay increase....SaintPav wrote:I can tell you now it's friggin bullsh!t that Chris Pelchen would be driving any decison about what extension he gets. I am absolutely gobsmacked by the article, "if" there is any real truth in it.
Firstly, I am a bit confused - the article talks of a two year extension, which is effectively a 1 year extension of his current contract. It then talks of a 2 year extension, which is on top of his current contract = 3 years.
This "has to be" a Board decision. To think that a 5 minute wonder Chris Pelchen has this amount of clout, would be a farce - who is there who could be considered a "ready-made" replacement
For me, 3 years on top of his current 1 year to go contract, would be good for all parties - Ross, the Club and Players. Ross has earned the extension and should be backed in, unless someone has a "better" replacement.
Supporters need to express their opinions directly to the Club about how they feel. Emails are easy to do. After all, the Club says that "the Supporters" are the Club!

If supporters are running the asylum them we are in real trouble. Express all you like but i hope the club take no notice of any of them.Junction Oval wrote:I am absolutely gobsmacked by the article, "if" there is any real truth in it.

The Sports news article says in part :
In the circumstances of how would this be negotiated, considering that Ross has a year to go, would be very, very messy IMO.
Why shouldn't Members express their opinion on such a matter - football is a matter of opinions and if you look at past Club management decisions, they have been a long, long way off being perfect. If this situation has any truth, then it looks as though not much has changed IMO.
Yes, the Board has the ultimate responsibility and the Board should be/will be held accountable for its decisions. As I said in an earlier Post, to think that Pelchen has this sort of clout after 5 minutes in the job, amazes me.As revealed by Sportsnewsfirst.com.au last week, new Saints football operations boss Chris Pelchen has rocked Lyon with revelations that only a two-year extension is on the table.
Lyon is believed to want a new three-year contract if he stays for what will be a vital transitional rebuild of his list of servants with superstar forward Nick Riewoldt, 28, currently injured champion Lenny Hayes, 31 and small forward Stephen Milne, 31, all nearing twilights of long careers.
