Agree, but Ben "may" just get ill on Saturday morning and we bring in Gamble. Problem is that if Gardi goes down, we only have Kosi and Blake left for ruck duties. Kosi is needed up forward more than in the ruck.Ross has his eye on Sydney. We need to try to change things up so Mumford doesn't have it all his way. MG is the best bet. I imagine he will play with Mac as a sub this weekend.
Gardi !!!!

Bizarre selection....
We have 2 specialist ruckmen only.....niether are able fwds
2 back up ruckmen......one can play fwd, one back...
This is perhaps the slowest team i have seen since 1991.......
We will have little run...from an oversize defense...lose a mid rotation....
I cannot see any logic....replacing a mid with a ruckman only....when we already have a ruckman only

Great Decision.
We need Gardiner against Sydney if we are to have ant chance.
Will be great to see the big fella run around once more.
Well done Ross.

You are in the Cheersquad?? What a f****** travesty. Anyone who has anything negative to say about the club, the team, the players or the staff should leave IMMEDIATELY, not wait until next year. You are a disgrace to the concept of a cheer squad.clarky449 wrote:I wont be re joining the Cheer Squad next year so please count me out of it!!saint66au wrote:Why are ppl in our Cheersquad so damned negative all the time???clarky449 wrote:You wont be liking selection at about 10:30 Saturday Night.Pwoit wrote:I dont have a problem with this
Gardi can go forward resting, kosi rucks and ben on bench - rotating
This club demands a cheersquad who CHEER, support and provide positive energy and who are together like a SQUAD. Otherwise they are POISON.
I like the Gardiner selection, for what it's worth. Maybe it will pay off to give him a run ahead of finals, and a farewell bow is a nice touch. Carlton are quick, but if we can't hurt them with pace at least let's try and hurt them in the air. Gardi is good around the ground and we all know he can kick goals. If we do lose, I don't see his inclusion or anyone else's exclusion as the reason.
But we won't lose. You can count on it.

Agree. I was disappointed to hear that Walsh wasn't named, as I would prefer him up forward to Blake down back (who I'm not sure has a suitable match-up, and is probably too slow for a game against Calrton, without a suitable match-up), but I reckon Gardi is the next best bet and seemed to be the best performed last week for Sandy. To me it seems obvious he has been named with an eye to playing on Mumford next week. I have no problem with that, or with seeing if he and Ben can make an impact up forward. They can both mark and both generally kick well for goal.desertsaint wrote:not adverse to the decision.
gives ben a bit of a break before finals, and tests if gardy is ready for finals.
as stated above - gardy is a very useful addittion with finals almost here.
An inform Gardi is someone who can definitely add to our team and has shitloads of finals experience and gives us plenty of presence.

That doesnt help. We need a ruckman out. Either Ben or Kosi or hopefully it was a joke with MG. Doubt there will be any change though baring Sydney losing to Bisbane.AnythingsPossibleSaints wrote:Blake, surely.Old Mate wrote:Surely late change. Does Blake have a suitable match-up? Because if he doesn't, then we need to be less top heavy down back and it would be either he or Zac out. Carlton and Essendon's small forwards have run rings around our top-heavy backline in recent years.plugger66 wrote:That doesnt help. We need a ruckman out. Unless they plan to make Jason the sub, and have him replace either Gardi or Mac. I wouldn't mind that. That wouldn't work well if we got an early injury to someone small, though. That could be disastrous.

Id rather Ben or Kosi out if for some silly reason MG has to play. Still cant work out why though. Hopefully we win and that is the last time we see one of those guys for the rest of the season.AnythingsPossibleSaints wrote:Does Blake have a suitable match-up? There's no way in hell Kosi will be out after kicking 3 goals (and missing another sitter) and providing lots of crumbs for Milne and Schneider last week. I think it's worth testing Carlton's defence with someone else tall, as long as we aren't top heavy down back. You need to chill out. You have nothing to fear.
And I don't think it's "silly" to have the one who's probably still our best option in the ruck in our team. I saw Gardi play a couple of weeks ago and he still looked the goods in the ruck and was still jumping high (something Ben doesn't do much, if at all). If Gardi does well and Ben has to make way again, so be it.

I agree. But I think it really shows our lack of depth, having to bring in a person for his 1st game of the season in Round 24.plugger66 wrote:Id rather Ben or Kosi out if for some silly reason MG has to play. I don't think we're bringing Gardi in cos we HAVE to. This is a good move, forward thinking as Joffaboy suggests.
As Anything'sPS said, the concern is their small speedy forward line. Zac or Blake should give way, Zac's disposal is better, but Blake is more mobile, so I dunno...
Our midfield wins, we win on form.
Our rucks get first hands to clearances, our mids probably win.
Gardi is a proven winner in the ruck. Fresh, motivated to finish well, experienced.
So not necessarily a necessity, but nice to have back up.
Remember: Next 5 games will probably be Carlton - Sydney - Hawthorn - Collingwood - Geelong.
Could do with squeezing in some game time for our most experienced ruckman for those. This is the only game that we can lose and still stay in the race.

If nothing else, I appreciate the quotation marks on "we"saint tash wrote:Going tall because Thornton is out. o'Hailpin won't play back so if "we" play a tall forward line it may catch them out.
Thank you.
Let's hope Maxwell can squeeze back into the side, all of the other finalists have their fingers crossed with you
