The Thread of Win (circa 2011)
This thread goes out to all those who aren't interested in giving up on the team in what remains of this 2011 season.
In the last two years, we have: endured three tumultuous Grand Finals; have lost our two beloved leaders of the one and only Premiership in only the space of 6 months; have had to feel the humiliation of the two Grand Final losses and then put up with the endless media circus surrounding off-field incidents.
Right now, the team has an opportunity to qualify for the finals.
Since we've gone 22 rounds of the season, IMO, the team may as well throw everything they have into giving it their best shot.
For some of these players, there may not be a tomorrow.
I would much prefer to see them go down swinging and earn the respect from others - not mention, gaining some self-respect whilst they're at it - as opposed to raising the white flag and conceding defeat.
Supporting St.Kilda FC is not for the faint of heart. So if you disagree, then perhaps you can question why you are supporting this club in the first place.
Anyway, I like finish with the words from a song which I feel are kind of applicable to the team's situation. I like to have it as personal anthem motivate myself in everyday life when I feel the chips are down.
I would definitely find comfort to know if RL and team are using a similar sort of mantra to fire themselves before running onto the field before a game.
"how many more days will you sit
and talk about your ambitions
all that you can be
the person you are dying to be
the place you want to get to but always out of reach
before that fury swells inside of you
grows so big that it forever quiets you
stand up to your demons
make a run at your goliath
find the best, find the worst
waiting in both of you
it's not the who or the what that is lasting
but how you fight
that is the fight
the only mark that will not leave you
and i will feel my heart drum its final beat
if it meant that i have give this my all
there's nothing left for me to believe in
if not you, if not this...
what else is there but death?
(it's your call... it's all on you)
GIVE MORE
GIVE EVERYTHING
GIVE BLOOD"

I know one of their little yappers missed running into goal, then it was 1 point the difference for what felt like 10 hours...between that and GUESS WHO! was a long, long feeling...matrix wrote:hmmm
sounds familiar
can remember being in a state of panic with not much time left, so thats prob why
Point being, we all want success for our club no matter who they do it, so on behalf of all of us...WIN!

That game was a ripper, Raph was magic that night. I got a corporate freebie with some Dogs supporters and was going mental until I remembered that I was meant to look like a good sport and behave in a professional manner. I didn't come over so well though anyway.
Just keep the wins coming, history looks sweeter when you work harder, if we keep winning through the finals we'll make it a year to remember.

Why? Why care what other people say.saintspremiers wrote:A one point win will do.
Ground announcer at the end of the game:
"start to cheer Saints fans, you're in the finals!".
And if ANY Saints fans within earshot of me makes a snide or sarcastic remark at that point in time, they will cop a few earfulls from moi!

I hear you, I am proud that they dug themselves out of the hole they we're in earlier in the season.
But, just like the bad luck that seems to raise it's head at the worst moments with this club reappeared last week with the team seemingly struck down with a stomach virus, which would explain the lack lustre performance last week.
Mind you despite that, we we're winning for the majority of the game, so it is easy to assume, no stomach bug, we would have beaten Sydney easily.
In a way, I hope we play Swans first up so we can smash them.
The reality is a premiership this year would be nothing short of divine intervention, but I'm praying.

Except for the sanity nothing much has been lost.
