So this doesn't really tell us anything we didn't already know, perhaps it just lays it out a bit clearer. The game is higher scoring and more contested than it was 2 years ago; With our clearances, we've stayed more or less the same and ALL the other teams have gone past us. Pies are averaging over 20 Contested possessions than us now and every team has gone past us, even Port and Suns!
It's pretty much the same for Contested Marks, Inside 50s, Marks inside 50...
Why have we stayed the same? Tiredness? Reached our limit? Injuries to better players? All of the above?
Assuming the coaching team know this information, what do you think they are doing about it?
Please no doomsday merchants (ie "We're finished sadface"), just constructive ideas please. By all means be negative, but in a constructive way!

Thinking about this a bit more.
If our contested possessions are lowest in the league and our uncontested possessions are 3rd highest, that confirms the oft-repeated idea that St Kilda are too indirect.
It's great that we're able to find space, but that is because our players are in the areas that the opposition consider "safe". Our players are either unwilling (or haven't been instructed) to go into the danger zones (cue Kenny Loggins) that are being protected or they are going into there and losing the contest. If it's the former then the mentality/tactic MUST change, if it's the latter, we need to get better at contesting. Stronger bodies, faster brains.
By the looks of the Inside 50 stats, we need forwards. Fast, tall and strong. People that midfielders love kicking to. Time for Ross to give us what he promised us this year, a higher emphasis on attack. Drag a utility or two and put in some TARGET MEN! Bring Goddard and Ray up, or Raph. Instead of loading the defense, load the offence.
Or not, I don't know. What do YOU think?
