Another reason for the Saints to win tomorrow.....if we win 6/7 and playiing is a lock...so with so many defenders in our team we could look at playing Walsh in the seniors to have a look at him.
Would provide Tommy with a great lift for next year even if they only give him one game.
who know...might just be the extra spark we need up forward to go deep in the finals.

cool then he's been managed brilliantly by RL, bringing him to the boil just before finals!Dr Spaceman wrote:He was a forward in the Irish game.Dan Warna wrote:well done, which begs the question why has been playing CHB?
His time in Defence could have only been to allow him to learn our game.
well done TW and well done RL

my mental notes from the game re Saints players:
all round solid effort from the Zebs never stopped believing
WALSH - showing genuine poise on the ball now, reading the play and the ball very well, shows complete confidence when going for goal, technically he looks great. Played 99% forward with a fleeting moment in the ruck. Bit of an opportunist. Surely he's got the taste now having kicked the winning goal right in front of the collingwood fans totally silencing them. Absolute GOLD!
CAHILL - first time I've been impressed. Showed some class today seemed to be playing on the wing.
JOHNSON - seemed to be playing on the wing a bit too. Outstanding effort all day took some good over heads which has been commented on here as a weakness for him. He's got run in him and a good kick.
SMITH - took a totally brave mark running back with the ball (all three players smashed) showed real dash and midfield tenacity today. Some intelligent kicking (really happy about this).
SIMPKIN - does what Simpkin does (very very well)
ARCHER - played in defense great last quarter
CURREN - I like this little chap, think there is a lot to develop here
HEYNE - got alot of the ball, some good marking and generally being useful
GARDNER - went off not to return after first quarter (didn't seem injured but must have been)

If nothing else, this!Junction Oval wrote:Great report Millarsaint. Thanks.
Sounds like Half of the team lifted themselves off the floor and showed how they can play.
Let's hope that Tommy gets a run in the last two matches. Much tougher oppostion and pressure than what The Suns, Adelaide would have been.
We shall wait and see!

Don't necessarily agree with that.Old Mate wrote:I would love to see him play for the Saints this year but you would think that his papers have been stamped by Ross and co. re playing in 2011. If he was going to get a run it would have been against weaker opposition. Two tough games to finish the H&A season.
Our stocks are very low and we might have to call up someone like Walsh in a finals match. Now that would be tough opposition! Ideally it would be best to have a look at him in a H & A game.
Would Walsh against North represent a greater risk to success than say Gamble, given a forward is likely to come in to address a current imbalance?
Why not?
Steven's was nothing till middle of the season.
Armo got the call up about a month ago.
Blake got the call up 2 weeks ago.
I believe if mcqualter had continued to show form, he'd have got the call up.
Baker has been told he's in contention.
I once hated dempster but I now believe the coach rewards those who follow his instructions and do as he says.
Baker did not get a lot posessions, but he shut down his opponent effectively.
If the coach wants walsh to learn defence and he learned defence, that is good, if the coach says go forward and kick goals and he does that, then he has done what the coach wants.
Monty, dal and Milne were all dropped after what we the punters believed were good games.
Now the coach shows loyalty back to milne. People said blakes and bakers book was stamped in 2007, its 2011, and baker and blake are still in the coaches contention.
I am now a RL convert. I'm excited about TW, I'd love to have a goal kicking forward who can lay out 100 goals a season, and Roo goes to CHF, i'd be happy.
who says he doesn't encourage youth? i just think we aren't throwing children to the wolves like melbourne, GCS etc, and we are tempering them a bit of muscle, endurance and desire to play finals.
I believe the coach picks the best players from the pool and makes players earn their spot.

To be fair Ross has a reputation of being conservative with team selections. That's well known in the footy world.
Don't get me wrong I would love to see Walsh play. We're screaming out for a tall forward to help Roo out. On past selections I cannot see Walsh being selected. Steven and Mac effectively got promoted to the midfield based on injuries. Now if Kosi or Roo get suspended or injured then Walsh may come in. Otherwise I think Ross will be looking to settle the team with limited changes and if any it will be the tried and tested not rookies like Walsh.
