Our forward line
is poor.
I reckon we've nearly as many forward 50 entries as Collingwood, but can't buy a goal.
Time for something new IMO.

it's groundhog day again hey carl.
We have to play either lynch or gamble as the hit up forward.
Roo is trying to hard. Kosi is more use on ball and schneider is a small forward.

Something's gotta happen. Impossible to hold Collingwood to a really low score.Solar wrote:it's groundhog day again hey carl.

Sam Fisher's now been moved forward, but far too late.
20 inside 50s to St Kilda in the last quarter to Collingwood's 9. FFS.

20 inside 50s to us in the last quarter to Collingwood's 9, yet we don't threaten to bust it open.saintjake wrote:It really must be so frustrating for Roo.
The boy has 2 or three on him all the time. We really just need another target up there.
Most sides have the two big targets
We have Roo.
I really hope Ross follows up on his word and goes after a big forward in the off season

agree and it will be alot harder at the MCG so we need to keep developing this forward line.bigcarl wrote:20 inside 50s to us in the last quarter to Collingwood's 9, yet we don't threaten to bust it open.saintjake wrote:It really must be so frustrating for Roo.

Roo is currently our only key forward with a couple of small forwards, a resting midfielder and perhaps aruckman.
Have to bring in the best performing of johnson, lynch, gamble or walsh next week. We have tree more weeks to develop the forward half as Ireally do believe this is our weak link.

Gamble might have been handy, just as another option.
Not sure who would have been left out though.

Our forward line didn't fire today yet we had more scoring shots
We need to get smarter - what about the short lead then a quick double back towards goal combined with a long kick to the goal square
as the foward you know what's going to happen so you can anticipate it - at least then the ball is still going in the right direction and deep in our forward line giving us time to set up a defensive line rather than it being rebounded from half back and us being caught out
Roo is getting slower and unfortunately as much as champion as he is for a guy his size (this applies to Kosi too) they get muscled off the ball far far too easily
We need to get smarter in the forward line and fast and we need to get smarter with our delivery - this is obvious but currently against top sides we get found out!!

I reckon it's time to quit making excuses for Roo.
Tonight there were plenty of contests where it was just Roo versus Tarrent and he got beaten in almost every contest.
Yes he gets some bad balls in but that would happen with any average to bad teams midfield and its not like there are no good forwards in those teams.
I assure you that Jack Riewoldt didn't get better delivery, nor did Fevola at Carlton, nor does J.Brown in his last few years, and I am tempted to say, nor did Riewoldt last year or in many of our previous years.
You make use with what you get and if a forward relies on the balls being given on a silver platter then he will fail.
Riewoldt needs to step up massively, and he of all people would be the first to admit it.
I bet he isn't sitting there making these excuses so neither should any of us.

sadly, I think you are right. Whack Goddard at ff and Riewoldt on the wing for a while. Or at least give Roo some support in the form of another quality tall target.FQF wrote:I reckon it's time to quit making excuses for Roo.

Yes but the Pies are seagulls and set up for this - our clangers were completely unacceptable - in possession - no pressure - ball should end up at least in our forward line - BUT - they end up with a shot on goalOld Mate wrote:Pies won the clangers 63-47
F*** we should of won
Holding the Filth to 19 scoring shots is amazing - yet they probably should have even less and we should have more
We also missed some simple set shots at goal - Milne 1 Polo 2 Goddard 1 McEvoy (harder) 1
The end of our quarters were great but (aprt from the 2nd) we allowed the Filth to get easy goals in the first 10 mins of each quarter - mainly due to our atrocious kicking skills
Hopefully Pelchen over the next few years will correct this

Pretty much sums it up. Really missed Goddard in the back half. Too many times players like Gilbert, Peake and even Fisher turned it over with short 20 metre passes that missed their mark. Goddard spent most time forward for not much result. Which ever Filth player was on him he shut him right out.Devilhead wrote:Yes but the Pies are seagulls and set up for this - our clangers were completely unacceptable - in possession - no pressure - ball should end up at least in our forward line - BUT - they end up with a shot on goalOld Mate wrote:Pies won the clangers 63-47

Great point , every week people whinge about roo getting beaten , yet the quality of ball he gets is shite . defenders must love the way our running players kick it forwardBigMart wrote:Entries vs quality of entries......
Jason Dunstall would have never kicked a goal in this team......
Bit like centre clearances.....vs quality centre clearances

Our skills against the filth are second rate! Again!
Better performance than last time....,but!

I think this thread misses the mark a tad.
I was amazed at how poor we were bringing the ball into fwd line tonight - time and again bumbling, errant handpasses under pressure (or poor kicks under no pressure).
Its not purely our fwd line (granted that has to improve) its THE WAY we are moving the ball from defence to attack - we are not a fluent, attacking side and I reckon it shows badly.
We actually looked dangerous and split Pies open a few times tonight when we moved the ball fwd with some speed (when Peake got into space and could run on) BUT too often we over posessed or simply made dumb decisions/disposal errors.
Side must get more skill FAST. Players who can hit a target are natural kicks with some speed are a must.
I pray Cripps, Ledger......anyone else in that speed/decent delivery mould? - can come on quick....
