Yawn.
Imagine how demoralising it must be for the Tommy Walsh's on our list, knowing that no matter how well they play and how much they bust a gut during the year that they'll almost always be overlooked for a safe, tried and true option. Don't imagine it would be too good for morale.

Predictably conservative.
But I'll take it.
Go the Blake.
Do a Peakey.

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

No upside whatsoever from playing Blake AND we need something from left field to even have a remote chance even though it's next to impossible.
Another opportunity gone begging.
Blake in possibly his last year and Walsh with it all ahead of him, no forward planning whatsoever.
Walsh should have been playing and gaining valuable experience at least ten weeks ago.
Give the kid a go, FAIR DINKUM
Lyon might be a brilliant tactical coach but team selection is an absolute joke.

Unfortunately I find it hard to argue with anything much of that, although I'm not altogether unhappy to see Blake in the seniors. Surely it was a good chance to bring Tommy in, though, since whoever came in for Zac was likely to go back to the VFL again next week, anyway. It may as well have been Tommy. What the hell do we gain by giving Blake one game? Hopefully Pelchan coming on board may help get them out of their conservative selection rut.barks4eva wrote:Precisely!AnythingsPossibleSaints wrote:You don't think the Collingwoods and Geelongs would be shaking in their boots at our conservatism and almost complete unwillingness to take a risk?barks4eva wrote:STUPID

The coaching staff seemingly want those on field to take more risks and play with more dare, I just hope they practise what they preach. They need some Denny Crane sized balls! No way in hell are we going to win the premiership, from where we are, playing it safe.

Considering the time since round 8 has been by far the easiest part of our draw for the season, it was always a very distinct possibility.SainterK wrote:Did the people questioning team selection this week, predict say at about Rd 8, that St Kilda would likely be sitting 6th at the end of this round?
At this point I really don't care how well we go in the home and away rounds, though. I want to win a premiership and as I keep saying, we won't be doing that by playing it safe and conservative. We just won't have enough momentum. Finishing an "honourable" 5th or something, with possibly only one or two new ones getting valuable finals experience, is of very little interest, personally.

I don't think it's safe, I am starting to think it's strategic.AnythingsPossibleSaints wrote:Considering the time since round 8 has been by far the easiest part of our draw for the season, it was always a very distinct possibility.SainterK wrote:Did the people questioning team selection this week, predict say at about Rd 8, that St Kilda would likely be sitting 6th at the end of this round?

Part of me is beginning to expect Blake and Kosi will ruck against Kepler and Clarke, Blake is a good matchup for Kepler, while Ben rests his niggles and is a late out?
Given that Sandilands and Griffin are out, it perhaps allows us to, as Ben has Jolly, Mumford and Goldstein in the coming weeks and looked pretty proppy last week?
