Could be in sixth place by end of next Round.
As long as we have a healthy win...as the Swans are not playing we could go past them on points.
If the Hawks can knock off Freo in WA 6th place will be ours.
We games later against both Freo and the Swans we have the ability to lock in a Melbourne Final in Round one of the finals.
If the top 4 end up all being Melbourne Teams, that may assist in giving the saints a good crack at.
Amongst other things need No 12 to hit his straps, as we don't want to be relying on small forwards in the finals.

Yep... it's looking good...If we finish 6th, and Vic teams fill the Top 4, we'll most likely host our 1st Final at Docklands.saintsRrising wrote:As long as we have a healthy win...as the Swans are not playing we could go past them on points.

Holder of unacceptable views and other thought crimes.
Don't discount The Sainters...
We won in '66 without (arguably) our best player..Carl Ditterich.... you only need to be a point in front when that final siren goes.
Adelaide managed to pinch it from 5th in '98..
The weight of expectation is off our boys and I believe the disappointments of seasons past will give them an unmatched ferocity in this years Finals.
This team's best can match it with anyone.
Four quarters of Saints Footy can beat anyone.
p.s- Helen is a Flog!

I'll be very happy if you end up being as right about your first point as you are about your secondBakesFan wrote:Don't discount The Sainters...

West Coast is the only team of any quality that we've rolled, and our skill level is still not anywhere near what it needs to be to knock over Carlton, Geelong or Collingwood in a final, where we'd need to beat all 3 to win a flag.
It's still gonna be great watching us try though.....

Totally different finals structure then.BakesFan wrote:Adelaide managed to pinch it from 5th in '98..
The Crows were smashed in the first week by Melbourne.
They survived and defeated Sydney at the SCG the next week (we lost to them by two points in the first week).
In today's system if you finish 5th - 8th and lose you are out. No double chance.
It was an abomination of a system and was only in place for a few seasons.

Yet while we were terribly out of form we came within a goal of both Geelong and Carlton, so logic suggests that if we have improved significantly we could beat both of those sides…St Chris wrote:…our skill level is still not anywhere near what it needs to be to knock over Carlton, Geelong or Collingwood in a final, where we'd need to beat all 3 to win a flag.

How have we gone against the Pies in our past two outings?

Do you discard the fact that we drew with them in a GF six months ago when you choose the 'last 2' as a reference?saintspremiers wrote:Fine.dragit wrote:Yet while we were terribly out of form we came within a goal of both Geelong and Carlton, so logic suggests that if we have improved significantly we could beat both of those sides…St Chris wrote:…our skill level is still not anywhere near what it needs to be to knock over Carlton, Geelong or Collingwood in a final, where we'd need to beat all 3 to win a flag.

Of course they're definitely ahead of us at the moment but they were last year too before we were dead level in GF 1. They're doing it comfortably at the moment but aren't unbeatable, e.g. cats 08, saints 09.
