8 point win tonight...
Tonight's win had massive improvement of our %.
It is now above the Swans and just 2 % less than the Dons. A good win against the GC next week could see us having a % greater than the Dons.
This is a real bonus as up to tonight I thought that we would need to win one more game than them to get above them. Now it is possible that we may get there with %, and this could well give us a crack at a home final.

I have a feeling our percentage will end up being irrelevant.
I think we will come 6th or 7th and play the bombers at the MCG anyway...
Couldn't hurt to get a great % either way though.

But the ladder tonight is true ladder as the games played is equal.philtee wrote:Now into the eight. Probably only for less than 24 hours.
But we picked up about 8 percentage points as well.
We have a better run home that the teams around us....so we are sitting ok now.
Need to beat the Swans and Blues though...not to make the 8...but to enter the finals with confidence and in form.

Here's your 8 POINTS:
Point 1: We won by a margin of over 100 pts for the first time this year. We drew with the team just above Adelaide on the ladder 16rds ago, so we're improving.
Point 2: Brendan Goddard is playing well after having a slow start to the season, and the Skipper, though he still isn't super-damaging on the scoreboard, is taking strong marks again.
Point 3: We had a slow start to the season because unlike the other teams except for the Pies, we finished 3 weeks later than everybody else. The real question is how are the Pies doing so well.
Point 4: Our lesser players are starting to stand up and win plaudits. Peake, Steven (suspended at the start of the year), Gram, Polo, Gamble, Kosi, Clarke the last 2 weeks, Armitage tonight, after being down earlier.
Point 5: If 4th placed Carlton beat the Dons well enough for them to lose more than 2% and the Doggies manage to beat Sydney in Sydney (Barry Hall wild card) and Hawthorn beat Melbourne, we go up to 7th place.
Point 6: 6th placed Freo play WCE this week, Hawthorn at Subi in rd19. If they lose both of those games, that place is up for grabs.
Point 7: We've won 8, lost 7 and drawn 1, back in black for the first time this year. We've also won 4 in a row. We are on a roll.
Point 8: We are on a dream run that continues with Gold Coast and Freo @ docklands. Both should be wins, then we face the Magpies @ Etihad on a Friday night showcase. We'll be full of confidence, needing a decent scalp after a bit of downhill skiing just like we did against West Coast. The Pies might just be beginning to tire. They don't get spooked by many teams but we drew them in a GF less than 12 months ago. Who knows... We MUST believe we can do this. With heart and head.
We will play finals, we will compete. Most of the players have been there before, they know what to do. Who knows how far we'll get. We are not just going to go quietly away.
Ahh, well at least let's enjoy the big win this week and not get too ahead of ourselves!

Agree, we cannot fear anyone.HardSaint wrote:I reckon a final would a fantastic occasion to whack them for once and get the monkey off our backbergholt wrote:f*** i hope not.Armoooo wrote:I think we will come 6th or 7th and play the bombers at the MCG anyway...
I am so sick of Essendon and tired of the media's fawning coverage of James Hird.
If we end up beating them in a final then all their home and away wins over us won't be worth JACK SH*T!
In honour of those who went before, in the dark and desperate years.

I'd be a hell of a lot more confident of beating them in the finals than in the home and away season...I Love Peter Kiel wrote:Agree, we cannot fear anyone.HardSaint wrote:I reckon a final would a fantastic occasion to whack them for once and get the monkey off our backbergholt wrote:f*** i hope not.Armoooo wrote:I think we will come 6th or 7th and play the bombers at the MCG anyway...

Big month coming up.
Could really turn the comp on its ear if we run the Filth for four quarters or even win that game......
I reckon we will at least win a final.
Thats what we do.

NFI re Carlton/Bombers game. Impossible form line to read.SainterK wrote:Carlton should win, easily.InkerSaint wrote:If Essendon lose to Carlton by more than 4 goals they could drop below us on percentage.
Key word, should.
Important for us is to finish within 5 goals of the filth to protect our percentage.

Just checked the math, the line is roughly 20 points. The higher scoring the game is, the lower the line gets:
80-58 (-22)
100-80 (-20)
120-102 (-18)
Just to add some spice to a Saturday night...
