I will probably get flamed for this
Is it worth looking at Chad Cornes for one season to fill Jimmy Gwilts role while he is having the knee reco?
I know - Cornes is 32 and not part of our long term plans - a huge disadvantage.
It means not developing a listed player like Walsh for example.
My way of thinking would be that if he was taken for one year, RL thinks we have a realistic chance of a flag in 2012.
So it depends on your way of thinking. If you think we have a chance with the core group still in their prime, and with players like Steven, Mac, and Armo coming on (and Lenny back), you may think it is reasonable to use an experienced backman like Cornes for the one season.
maybe a year deal with our last pick? Nothing to lose there.
If you think we are shot and need to rebuild during 2012 it would be a silly decision.
Also with RL record with recycling players, many would wonder about the direction of the club.
There is no right or wrong, I am just putting up a hypothetical.
Would Cornes be a fit for a flag tilt with Jimmy out, or would we be better developing a kid?
Of course the alternative is develop a listed player AND try for the flag.
So lets keep the convo civil. As i said no right or wrong answer.

Lance or James??
There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, "Enough is enough." For me, that time is now. I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair advantage in <redacted>. Over the past three years, I have been subjected to a <redacted>investigation followed by <redacted> witch hunt. The toll this has taken on my family, and my work for <redacted>and on me leads me to where I am today – finished with this nonsense. (Oops just got a spontaneous errection <unredacted>)

I thought he was Port B&F last year.Spinner wrote:Na. His output these days are significantly lower.
Was a great player. Average now. Difference in playing someone from the 2s not all that great.
He also seemed to negate Fisher pretty well last week. Perhaps we have too many "stoppers", however in his prime he did a great Sam Fisher type role for Port.
Fair enough though.

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

Cornes is probably too great a risk - when the end comes it comes fast - see Simon Goodwin last year.
Our best players in the VFL seem to be the guys playing the utility half-back role. You'd think with another pre-season one of Simpkin, Walsh, or Lynch would be ready to hold down a regular spot in the ones.

Has not got the tools to play backline anymore...
Used to play the Sam Fisher role brilliantly, but has lost pace and agility...
Only value now is as a pinch hit forward (or forward negating role, as he did on Fisher)... But that is certainly of no use to us...
Would get exposed in defence big time...
So thats a No from me...
Lynch should be able to fill Gwilts role servicably... And hopefully Raph takes his confidence pills every week and plays like last, and we shouldn't lose to much with Jimmy going down, as good as he's been...
There doesn't seem much on the radar for possbly trades/recruits next year outside the PSD... Obviously a few months out, but if Fev and The Chad are going to be the big names bandied about, we best stay out of it IMO...

Sounds like a universal NO from the punters.
Well it will make good reading here if Ross did a Doc Clarke on us

Interesting, in almost every other code, Chad Cornes would be considered a prime selection.
Costs nothing, low wages, can fill a hole.
I actually don't mind it.
I've seen worse.
Only question on CC is his mobility. Seems to have lost much of it. Would give him a pre-season and see what happened.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.
