Its pretty obvious that NO commentators are any good at calling Saints games judging by the reaction on here..every week win or lose whoever is calling the game is pilloried as rubbish..Seven, Ten or Foxtel. Yes some are way better than others but too many people slag commentators just because they dont pull out a box of tissues every time a Saints player goes near the ball
So what if they got excited about Natanui?..hes a freak. Noone would complain if he was doing that against any other side and the commentators wet themselves. GO back and listen to the first quarter again..I reckon we got our fair share of praise..but then the Eagles mounted a comeback and of course thats going to excite the commentators..its the theatre of calling games.
Just for the record, Channel Sevens Friday night team is so far ahead of anything on Ten its not funny. Tom Harley is the best special comments bloke by a mile, Richo is warming into his role as boundary rider superbly, and Bruce and Dennis, while a touch annoying when they digress while the game is on. are smooth as silk the vast majority of the time
What shytes me about Seven is their arrogant use of the coverage as a ratings tool first and a sports telecast second

Yes the incredibly biased 3GL "on the west Coast"...howlinwolf wrote:Oh yes Georgie !!!georgie girl wrote:Anyone else remember the old 3GL commentary - now that was biased! All the Cats players were called and cheered along by nicknames. If you were lucky enough, they would mention a Saints player or maybe even his name if he was well known and did something amazing.
THE most biased commentary ever heard anywhere.
It was insane. There was only ever one team playing.
If Geelong were 50 points down they'd say " the Cats are still in this"
If they were one point up it'd be " The Cats have this in the bag.
You have to have heard it to know how bad it was.
Legendary commentators like Brian Brushfield and Peter Le Grand.
The only one that kept them any where near honest was Ted Whitten
who would ridicule their bias on air.
Spaceman... you must remember these days ?
It's part of our ongoing distaste for the Cats.
In honour of those who went before, in the dark and desperate years.

Remember when the only radio coverage for the Sainters (70's & 80's) was from a station that spent most of the day broadcasting horse races?

Peter Landy used to go alright!
The West Coast game was one of the first Fox commentaries I have listened to.
I gotta say it was pretty ordinary.
Granted, you have to bear in mind that they will pump up the underdog as much as they can. When a team goes seven goals up, people can just switch off. They have to talk it up and keep it interesting.
Dunstall is a flog of the highest order though. Some of his calls on the umpiring, especially free kicks paid to US were pretty interesting.
The rest of it was just more of the usual. The calling of games on TV at the moment is at an all time low in my opinion. The current situation appears to show that the current networks are out of ideas. The channel seven "megawall" for example. Seriously.
Foxtel better have a long hard look at how they are going to cover games in the near future. I'll be arsed if I am gonna pay money to listen to Pinky and the brain have a circle jerk over Natanui dropping a mark.

That on-screen Ch 10 replay is friggin annoying ... Until humans can split their eyes so as to look at two things at once I fail to see the point of it....bigred wrote:Peter Landy used to go alright!

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

I vaguely recall Commetti after a break saying, "The Eagles by 43 points... sorry, that's wishful thinking, the Saints by..."
I made the number up, but I'm sure I heard that because I remember being incredulous at the time that he would be so brazenly one-eyed....

Has something to do with Goose's nickname being stuffed up when he went up to BL and was being called Moose instead.saintbrat wrote:he always does and no matter how people tell him he still does itkosifantutti23 wrote:I thought I heard McAvaney referring to Matt Maguire as "The Moose" today.

I watched the game again, and YES, one commentator did say "wishful "thinking" when attributing West Coast to one of our good deeds.
At the start, when we were spanking them, the commentators were indeed a bit biased against us. F%ing Dunstall the worst. Fact. They were quiet, oh so quiet when we scored goals, but when West Coast finally got going they were laughing and having side converstaions etc.
However, towards the end of the game, when it was up for grabs, I thought they managed to hold their St.Kilda hatred in check and give a balanced call. Dunstall even made a point of trying cover up his West Coast bias and saying "we want an even game that goes down to the wire."
Good for him, dumb ugly piglet that he is.
