Dippa said Alan was in the stands for our last two GF's, watching on with a warm rug over his legs, willing the Saints over the line.

My heart goes out to all those hurting. Lets hope St Kilda and Hawthorn can arrange something appropriate for this wonderful man.

R.I.P.

A huge part of our club's history has been lost in a very short space of time.

RIP Yabby Jeans.

Today you have been officially appointed as St Kilda's head coach-in-perpetuity.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

Two pivotal persons from our Premiership side have now passed away, the captain, Doc Baldock, and the Coach, Allan Jeans.
Just wished they'd seen the team win another one.
R.I.P Jeansy, thank you for all you have done for the St.Kilda Football Club.

Except for the sanity nothing much has been lost.

Good on Georgie at the Club - there is a display of Allan memories in the front foyer at moorabbin..
Rest with Jack, Trevor and Doc.

Now we know where Ross's sausages quote came from.

Tribute book to be sent to the club again?

Image

Image

It wil sent to the club for the Saints heritage museum for display purposes.

The 6 months the Baldock thread was stickied, there wasn't much traffic. So if we just leave it open until Friday for tributes, then I'll send it to the club.

If someone could pick a photo or two for the cover.

Thanks to you Yabby for giving to a now mainly gone generation of Saints supporters that flag.

May you all sit together in that great grandstand up in the sky and watch down up us and madly ceer and barrack for the the team when that next flag comes along.

Interesting. I have heard former Saints first and only premiership coach very often. I suppose you hear what you want to hear.

http://www.3aw.com.au/blogs/3aw-news-bl ... 1hcud.html
After a moderate VFL career of 77 games with St Kilda he took over as senior coach in 1961 aged just 27. As a self-confessed ''brumby'' he had to win the respect of older men who were better players.

Compare that with today when the newest coach is Essendon's former champion James Hird, 36, who is backed by a million-dollar support team.

Jeans had to do it virtually alone, taking St Kilda to its only premiership in 1966, coaching the side for 16 years and to three grand finals before quitting at the end of 1976. He was persuaded to return to coach Hawthorn in 1981 - a club racked by internal divisions (he arrived as the players went on strike).

Somehow the canny copper slowly reintroduced unity, turning loose cannons such as Robert DiPierdomenico (who at one stage thought team spirit came out of a bottle of Scotch) into lethal weapons.

With the Doc gone, and now Yabby a big part of my childhood growing up in Melbourne has gone too. Very sad indeed. Been nice listening to some of the tributes. Really sad too our club was such a shambles that he went over and got the Hawks 3 Premierships.

But clearly he got a lot of pleasure coaching those guys, and who could begrudge him. Always remained a Sainter though.

If only we'd jagged one in 2009 or 2010. Just for them. ( Well....and me)
