Tommy Walsh, when is he going to debut?

Post: # 1103697Post borderbarry »

Tommy Walsh, when is he going to debut?
From watching Saturdays game he appeared to be one of the Senior players. I dont think he is going to learn much more at Sandy.
I thought the game On Sunday would have been ideal for him to make his debut. Now Kosi is due back, and it will be all the harder to find a place for him.

The Q-stick would have been a good test for him, but he won't get a game this week unfortunately…

Why not against Crows or Suns, that would be fairer to him.

I'd play Lynch v Lynch this week, seriously :)

Only if you want Quintin to kick a few.

Who would you matchup on him?

Keeping in mind there is still Darling, Kennedy and a resting ruckman?

Depends where he is going to play.

He could probably come in this week and play on either Darling or Kennedy, assuming Dawson takes whichever ruckman is resting forward.

If he plays forward, we probably dont have enough forward pressure with him, Kosi, Roo and Gamble in the same side.

Why is everyone assuming he'll come in and play up the back?

He was recruited as a forward, started at Sandy as a forward and in recent weeks has been playing as a forward. In between he has played in Defence as part of his education to Aussie Rules.

Whenever he debuts he's likely to start on the bench, but when he crosses the line I fully expect him to line up closer to Riewoldt than to Dawson.

He'll be bored shytless if it takes 4 years and head home,
Gotta remember he was in the very best few talents over there, an absolute star, I don't think he'll hang around 4 years in the VFL in case the dream comes true.
Hope we see him this year and he 'picks himself' from then on…

Was suspended Con. Should come straight back in.

If Tommy does play i would want him in the side as a forward.

Admittedly haven't seen a minute of vfl action all year but just based on what i've read in match reports and comments on the forum, if we were to give tommy at least one game this season to get a taste of the big stage, I don't think anyone would accuse Ross and the coaching staff of "gifting games." It really sounds as though he's earnt a crack. That being said, the threat of him calling it quits and returning home shouldn't determine whether or not he gets a game.

I think that we need to see what Tommy can offer "this year."

The Eagles this week is a "must win" match and I doubt that Ross will take the risk of a first-up game for him.

The Crows and Gold Coast will be "low risk" matches for us and he should get a look-in for both matches.

Why not make someone match up on him?

I think he has to threaten Lyon that he will go back home before he debuts.

+1

Just like Lynch was given a taste last year, and Will Johnson, Archer and Winmar earlier this year. You need to throw them in to whet their appetite - especially in Tommy's case.

From what I have seen of him I would think he was a pretty determined fellow. When he gets a game he wont be easily dislodged, like the youngsters.
