Schneider down back

Post: # 1099234Post Devilhead »

Just an idea

but

Any thoughts from forumites re: using Schneider down back to find a bit of form

He has a great left foot in general play and after yesterdays backline skills horror show is it worth trying him down back

We would have Goddard, Gwilt and Schneider - all decent kicks - hitting up targets in the middle of the ground with the plus that Goddard and Schneider could also provide run out of the backline

Yes he is small and his defensive skills could improve but his smart vision and laser left foot would have the ability to reduce turnovers

Leon Davis has been a relevation down back - could Schneider be used in a similar vein??

At least to find the ball and find some form

Thoughts??

How would he go on a Milne type player.
Because down back, he'd be picking up a 'small'.
Yesterday he would probably have played on Lindsay Thomas (instead of Gram)

I fear he's not quick enough for that.
He certainly has 'footy smarts' as a forward adn part-time mid, but ina defensive role I think he's a tad slow?

He's fine as an extra man - an outlet from the backline through the middle (ala the beginning of the 3rd qtr of the PF last year).

I don't think its a bad idea for the short term. Let the play come to him. Give him a bit of confidence.

It would be good to play him on a hard running FWD to teach him how hard you have to work to be a successful FWD. He seems pretty lazy at the moment.

He could also work as a rebounding backmen. He's uses the ball pretty well and reads it well enough.

But only for the short term. Get his confidence up and back to the position where he can do the most damage.

He could also try getting on the treadmill because he looks rather unfit ATM.

Unles there is a bar or a Hot Dog stand somewhere in the back half Im not sure Schneids will be that comfortable. But im open to trying anything.

It has worked with other clubs, paricularly ex Saint, Brett Guerra and Leon Davis.

Not sure that Schneids has the "defensive mindset." :?

The two you mention probably didn't appear to have the defensive mindset either before they were moved back.

In saying that I'm not agreeing with the suggested move.

That's certainly another possible explanation. Whatever the reason, he is struggling ATM to get free of his opponent and to get to the contested ball: much more so than he has done in the past 2 seasons. At least he can still lay tackles, which is better than Gamble can do....
