Superb fella. Terrific player. Love the fact he was one of ours. Class.
"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

What a trooper. It makes me happy to know he is doing well for himself. Gilly was just great at St.Kilda. It made me sad when first learning that he was going to leave the club.
I remember being so excited about the prospect of him first coming to Moorabbin. A Magarery Medallist, who was tearing up the SANFL in his team Central Districts. We were anticipating his debut in 1990, when Kenny Sheldon was coaching in his first year. For some reason he didn't make it to the club until 1991. However, it was well worth the wait.
1991 was such a drought breaking year. First time we'd played finals football for almost 20 years. Gilly played a huge part in that and the following year. A new air of optimism was injected into the club.
Fantastic to hear him talk about the 1993 game at Vic Park. I will never forget the feeling of europhoria, shaking hands and high fiving the players in the CS area after the game. As a Saints fan, that is one moment I'll always cherish.

Teacher Gilbert McAdam - the former St Kilda and Brisbane Lions indigenous AFL footballer - has less clemency. He's worked around Australia with troubled youth, including petrol sniffers in the Northern Territory, and says society changed when disengaged young people had kids themselves. ''That became the norm, then it became the majority,'' he says. ''Rules start at home and if it doesn't there and doesn't happen at school then where does it come from?''

Great interview. Loving the Herald Sun's 21-year website, too. It's been a wonderful retrospective.
The reason he's in my avatar is because he played exactly the way I loved the game being played.
He was fast - explosive off the mark - skilful, clever, inventive, daring and capable of tearing teams to shreds. At his peak, he was as exciting a player as I can remember.
It's a shame we couldn't keep him. He went on to play some good footy at Brisbane, but boy, I missed him playing for us.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.
