Football Evolves..(Hawthorn)

Post: # 1095511Post murray 66 »

Due to injury Hawthorn were forced to make lots of team changes against Essendon and expose kids sooner rather then later .
Names like Bruest,Paolo,Smith ect....... would not be house hold names at Hawthorn ,but now have shown their supporters that Football evolves and their is life after Lewis,Mitchelland Bateman.................
My point is a Name is a nobody until exposure and a reputation is built where supporters can adore and their kids can idolise.
The Locketts and the Harveys have been idolised by us Saints supporters and are club greats, but until they were given a opportunity none of us would have heard of them.
I remember when Aussie ,Joel Smith and Tony Brown debuted and set the pr-season alight ,it gave me hope and new players to watch out for in the up coming season,Iwas excited and pumped.

Ross please play the kids for more of a sustained period and cull the deadwood....................

Thoughts.

Have bigger stronger bodies than our 1st yr players. Do you want them

smashed each week physically & mentally.

But they must have the ability as well....and ability(or demand) to hold their place....

Clarkson said on radio today they have been at the club 3-4 years
the guys who have been at the saints 3-4 years are armo and geary and steven and Mcevoy

and where are they?

Pies ' new guys' on the whole are also 2-4 year players
as i said some weeks ago when we played the lions commentators raved abut the 'new' Lion ruckman- who happened to be 2 1/2 years older than Ben

there are 'young' and then there are ' new' and then there are kids...

Smith, Heyne, STanley, Johnson are second year saints
Walsh, Cahill, Archer, are ROOKIES- which we are accused of not having.

ps - isn't this the umpteenth post on ' play the young guys' in the last fortnight

Smith, Heyne and Stanley are all third year Saints, as is Tom Lynch.

No doubt the hawks players would not being given the opportunity unless they weren't ravaged by injury, but as I said it gives the Hawks fans hope and it may give Clarkson some selection headaches when all the the big names are available for selection.Good situation to be in I think.

Looks pretty much like the Hawks, Cats and Pies have done a much better job than the Saints in identifying the kind of players they need and then developing those players. Our recruiting and development looks very hit-and-miss in comparison, and now we see the results reflected in ladder positions.

We've played a few this year too. If we had a list of injuries like theres, we'd probably be playing more at once as well.

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

Been saying this for years Spert, but nothing much changes.

We should have had plans in place to capitalise on the likes of Rooey, Kosi, Chips, Monty, Dal.

Don't want to bore you with past mistakes, but if we don't lift our game in the recruiting stakes, we will continue to reap what we so.

We should be talking with the top Hawthorn recruiter who has just left them (Pelshen) - he would seem to be a great possibility. :!:
