Mark Maclure on AFL 360

Waldron was the team manager/chairman under Watson.

I went to Moorabbin for lunch one Thursday afternoon and sat on the table next to Watson's four man team selection meeting taking place in the restaurant.

I have never seen so many Garlic Prawns consumed in my life. Plate after plate delivered to the table. And most of the conversation was about the prawns on the table rather than the prawns on the list.

I realised that day why Justin Plapp played one out in the forward 50 and why the football club was broke.

Don't know if that's a true story or not Saints43 but either way it's pretty bloody funny

Like it. An ex Saints Prez who likes to choof em down once told me that Tim "...had lost his way..." I asked him what happend to Stan and he also told me: "he lost his way". He was very pisssed and it was very funny.

Just saw AFL 360 and couldn't believe the garbage coming out of the mouth of Mark Maclure.

Criticising the Saints and in particular Ross Lyon.

Fair enough, disagree with the decision to play the older guys against Geelong
Fair enough, criticise the game plan and blame it for the poor crowd

Comments to the effect that:

Ross doesn't want to be there
Ross doesn't want to rebuild the list
Everyone at the club from the Board down is scared of Ross and he's running the whole show
Ross has lost the players

Biggest load of crap I've heard in many a day

He did not actually say that, he said:

Does Ross doesn't want to be there?
Does Ross doesn't want to rebuild the list?
What do the people behind him, the CEO etc think, are they scared of Ross and he's running the whole show?
Are the players behind him?

They were questions NOT statements. I don't think such questions are out of line (and I am a staunch Ross Lyon supporter), the team selection last week was regressive and it does not appear that the team knows where it's at.

Put whatever slant you want on it. I watched it and saw a very negative piece of crap espoused by a bitter old man who has issues with our club.

But if you think it was all fair and balanced then more power to you.

I thought it was fine. DK and MM have regularly talked on that show about the need for us to play a younger generation of players. MM expressed disbelief with the non-selection of kids against Geelong, which is somewhat echoed around these parts. Maybe people didn't like the way he said it, but his thoughts were very much in line with what I've been reading on here.

He questioned whether RL was the guy we want taking us forward into a rebuilding phase if that is indeed where we're going. He questioned Ross' commitment to rebuilding on the back of dropping kids for experienced players. Ross can say what he likes, but when he's using Nick Dal Santo as Lenny Hayes and leaning heavily on experienced players, he doesn't look like he's looking after the future.

I have my doubts. It seems for all Rod Butterss blubbering about a modern coaching department, we've replaced one megolamanical dictatorial coach with another one. We've now got a lawyer as list manager who will never challenge RL on anything. We've got an RL lackey heading recruiting and a whole new lineup of inexperienced assistants. That's fine if he can do it all. If he can't his head becomes an awfully big target if things keep going wrong.

So what's the role of the CEO, President and Board? The football Dept does not and should not run the club.
