Women's Week
I had no idea this was going on, mainly because I don't buy AFL Record anymore and try to avoid sh*t media.
I was somewhat bemused to hear this version of our club song when the players ran out onto the ground last Friday night.
But of course... it's WOMEN'S WEEK... that explains it
Is this AFL tokenism at its best or something worthy of becoming an event for all ladies to look forward to every footy season?
Hold the phone, the woman who sang our song in GF I of 2010 is actually a Carlton fan. Also revealed, Denise Drysdale lept from the sinking ship aka Richmond FC and swam to a nearby lifeboat called the St.Kilda FC

Absolute joke.
Because there are clearly no women players at the highest level they are obviously celebrating the fantastic contribution that women have made behind the scenes, from the women in administration to the mums working in the canteen.... but wait a minute, what about the men working in administration and the dads working in the canteen? doesn't their contribution count?
Honestly all these themed rounds are an absolute joke, the only one I didn't mind was the heritage round because it gave clubs a chance to sell a different jumper every year.

I'd just like to see football round ! where teams are allowed to play tough fair football , players not worried about getting two weeks for little love taps , players not crying when they don't get a free , players not staging for frees , umpires not paying silly frees one way and not the other , umpires not paying ridiculous 50 metre penalties when players over step a mark , half decent reasonably priced food at docklands ground
,
Gee i'd probably enjoy watching that round !!!!

hahaha... before the game last friday night, i went for the healthy choice food outlet. i was quite hungry and hadn't eaten dinner. so i grabbed a pitta salad roll, two-pack of nori rolls and an apple juice. I was thinking i'd be up for about 15 bucks. to my shock horror, the girl at the cashier said "that comes to a total of twenty-dollars dollars and fifty cents"mr six o'clock wrote:half decent reasonably priced food at docklands ground
at half-time i was still hungry and grabbed a "large" serving of hot chips. they were the worst i'd ever had. i hate spotless catering!

aren't they incharge of all the food outlets at docklands? maybe i'm misinformed. i take it back, if that's the case.plugger66 wrote:What has Spotless got to do with it?Sainternist wrote:hahaha... before the game last friday night, i went for the healthy choice food outlet. i was quite hungry and hadn't eaten dinner. so i grabbed a pitta salad roll, two-pack of nori rolls and an apple juice. Maybe the poor food is a deliberate strategy to increase their stain removal businessÂ

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's the same mob. For what I gather they seem to be monopolising the catering biz pretty well in recent years.Dr Spaceman wrote:Are they the same mob that does Dry Cleaning?Sainternist wrote:aren't they incharge of all the food outlets at docklands? maybe i'm misinformed. i take it back, if that's the case.plugger66 wrote:What has Spotless got to do with it?Sainternist wrote:hahaha... before the game last friday night, i went for the healthy choice food outlet. i was quite hungry and hadn't eaten dinner. so i grabbed a pitta salad roll, two-pack of nori rolls and an apple juice. I'd like to see a women walk around the boundary line at the start of each quarter in skimpy bikinis with a placard above her head with the number of the quarter on it that's about to start.
Seriously though I’ve long held the belief that there would be a huge market for a rebel Aussie Rules competition. One that flew in the face of PC and corporate dictatorship. One that went back to the gladiator days of entertainment. It would be enjoyed by men and women alike.
Out at the back of the stands there would be full strength beer sold in large steins and fresh beef on a spit over a large warm fire. There would be canvas tents for women and children to safely rest in while they wait for the games to finish.

I guess the closest thing we've had to that was The Swanettes at Sydney and The Blue Birds at Princess Park. Both were formed under the presidency of that quack Geoffry Edelsten.Cairnsman wrote:I'd like to see a women walk around the boundary line at the start of each quarter in skimpy bikinis with a placard above her head with the number of the quarter on it that's about to start.
I'm all for hot chicks and that, but it's all a bit too American for my liking. The cheer leader thing is more suited for American Football, IMO.
It could be named The Real VFL (Viking Football League).Cairnsman wrote: Seriously though I’ve long held the belief that there would be a huge market for a rebel Aussie Rules competition. How come we don't bring that back. Surely we could Australianise it.

Yeah, Sydney can bring back the Swannettes for all I care. They're a Mickey Mouse-type expansion club afterall.Cairnsman wrote:That's right I remember the Swannettes and Blue Birds.Sainternist wrote:I guess the closest thing we've had to that was The Swanettes at Sydney and The Blue Birds at Princess Park. I have a vague memory of seeing Footscay cheer leaders at the Western Oval or was it at Docklands?

I actually associate RL more as being a former Fitzroy player of the 80's, but quite frankly, i couldn't care less where our coach comes from, just so long as he's taking us in the right direction.Cairnsman wrote:Yeah and one of their old mouseketeers is now our coach.Sainternist wrote:Yeah, Sydney can bring back the Swannettes for all I care.
