Use of Siposs

Post: # 1085435Post BigMart »

I hope he is not pidgeon holed as a marking fwd..... For one he is not big enough, to be a key fwd, two, it is not utilisng his other attributes..

Arryn is a smart player, clean skills ground skills and a damaging kick...... He will be occasionally effective as a low fwd, because if he gets a kick....it will be a goal generally....which is nice...but he will only get a handful at his size

But

If he was used up the ground aswell, or behind the ball.....and then deep...he would be another good field kick to assist bj, dal, schnieder....

And therefore roo

Examples of his high potential

His pass to riewold on the lead from a standing start....he is one of only four listed players who could regularly do that.......slicing tjrough two on the hf line and dishing off....moving goalward...

Utilise his strengths more...... And dont make him a f***ing role player....

We even have riewoldt playing a 'role' atm.......let him play footy

Hes silky when he's near the footy..he did his direct opponent cold in the 3rd qtr on the goal line, til the ball took a skewed bounce away from him..also gotta love how hes prepared to take the man on..however needs to find the footy a bit more.

Must keep him in the side IMO..against a less mean defence than the Pies he will have a breakout game sooner rather than later

He is at the young end of the draft - going to be ga star I recon - but needs another preseason to get match fitness - can't mix it with the big boys just yet when it comes to the consistant running required to be a genuine playmaker. Also wasn't intimidated by Tarrants off the ball roughing up and looks like he could bulk into a serious unit. Next year he will be a great

Just keep playing him and play him in a few different positions to let him learn the game and to see where he may be best suited.

Last thing we need is another defender/half back flanker. Ross, please persevere and keep him in front of the ball.

That said, he may not be ready to play key forward just yet. Goddard IMO until Sippo is ready

Sipo should be used as 3rd fwd. 190cm who can mark on a lead and crumb - stevie j type.

but with no FF and Roo playing on a wing and Lyon obsessed with defence whenever we are under pressure poor old Arryn was left one out and lamb to the slaughter.

Maybe, but how often did you see Maxwell last night?

Has to stay near goal. At least he can convert. Would love him around CHF doing a Hamill style role. The guy can convert from 50 meters.

Interesting thoughts Mart.

It seems to me that Sippo is a natural playing in front of the ball. There aren't many of these sort of players around.

Schneider would be appear to the player that Sippo most closely resembles of our senior players - at least in terms of where he plays, and disposal skills. Clearly Schneids is more evasive, and Sippo a better mark.

Goddard, siposs, lynch, dal, gwilt, gilbert.....all flexible....with the exception of gilbert, all good users....

Schnieder....good user...should play midfield minutes, albeit breif...

Arryn, should play fwd....yes, he is a fwd...and will convert....

But it shouldnt be forgotton, that he can play as a person who can deliver the footy into 50, or out of d50 and cause damage.... And will kick it more often in those cases.

He sould alternate with bj.....

Have you actually thought he hasnt the tank to do that yet. It can take some players years to get fit enough to have a run on or behind the ball. He may only be capable of playing forward at the moment.

Fitness requirements of a fwd, are greater in modern footy.....with the exception of the inside mids, they work as hard as anyone, and unlike the backs who can sag off....they have to present, chase, tackle, push high and work back.......

The easiest place in afl footy to get a kick......inside d50...

Hardest place

Inside f50......especially at st kilda, with a traditional 5 man 2/3 set up

Easliest place to get exposed if not fit enough, inside d50. Please give me a rundown of how Siposs fitness was going last night.

Yep, Sipposs didn't get a lot of it but he did keep Maxwell honest. We need to find a second tall marking forward, once Sipposs is the 3rd tall he will get more of the ball

All very well for our fwds to keep the Pies defenders honest..but when we only kick 6 goals ourselves its not really ideal

Nice chewbacca defence. What has Maxwell go to do with it? We didnt kick enough goals and our fwd line was sub-par. We didnt take enough marks inside forward 50. What im saying is Sipo shouldnt be expected to take a lot of marks inside 50. Cloke took a few and that guy is a massive strong unit with a rear end of a large horse.

Point is Sipo is and will always be a 3rd fwd in an ideal world. Right now Saints are one quality player short and having to use a makeshift forward 50 set up.

Couldn't agree more Marto.
Watched the boys line up and said to the guy next to me surely Siposs is not going to play full forward.

But he did and got smashed. He is much more in the O'keefe catagory than the Hall Catagory.

How stupid can ross be to expect a kid(litarally) to play a key position in the forward line.

it was so stupid i couldn't believe it

I liked at one point Siposs lead up to the ball like Cloke and Dawes do. Hit him chest out because he ran directly at the ball. Unfortunately we need some one that can actually convert near the goals too. O keefe could do that well to lead up and protect the ball as it hit him up. Either way good to have too many options for a kid for a change.

are you one of these "role" people who probably reckons rob eddy is on a par with chris judd as a footballer?

in your mind when the saints score 1 goal and the other team score 9 - you take it as a win because X (insert opposition defenders name here) "didnt do much".

NoMore, Ross isn't stupid.

He threw Sippa to the wolves as a training lesson so Sippa gets a taste of the big boys.

Sippa may well be a star in 2013. It's all good experience.

Maybe Ross conceded the game before it began?

Let's see how we go against the Puppies who are more our level this Friday eh?

i think hes doing the best he can with the cattle at his disposal.
and with milney and schneids having their usual "big game" performances and us not having a gorilla in the fwd line it was always going to be tough on a young kid.
