Umpire corruption.

Post: # 1078455Post gringo »

Are our umps corrupt? I heard their was a $50 000 bet on the saints, the dees are kept in the game in the first quarter from over the top umpiring.

i dont think so. but should never be 100% ruled it out. any sport with betting can lead to corruption. cricket is now dead thanks to betting which saddens me.

but some of the umpiring has been shocking.

usually the umps do one howler than try and even it up with another howler. poor stuff.

I am stuck watching on free to air and can only say from the first half we seem to be getting caned from the umps. It just either comes from the fact that when you are down they assume every thing we do is wrong, or that they have been offered a bit of extra pay for a little extra help for the under dog. It would be worth a dodgy payout for the betting agents.

Frees 21 - 14 the Dees' way at 3/4 time.

The only real howler I can remember was the free in front to Petterd for marking interference against Gilbert when the ball had already bounced. Paid by the umpire 50m away. Not the guy 5m away.

But they gave a tough holding the ball against Watts in the last quarter. Can't remember if we scored from it.

What about Martin kneeing Kosi in two ballups, in the head - no free - then penalising Blake for doing the same f****** thing??

It was an amateur display of umpiring and in the end would have favoured Melbourne, but we were given some bad ones as well. My favourite part being the blatant throw from Polo over his head to release to a running player. Unfortunately we missed the goal from it. Overall it was summed up well by Newton giving the umpire back the ball when he was awarded a free in front of goal; he had no idea he'd be infringed upon.

Frees are a totally meaningless stat. There is no logical reason why the number of frees should be similar.

There is nothing that is discussed on this forum that we can control...

Our game is so fast nowadays that umpires are always going to make lots of honest mistakes. I don't blame them for those.
But I thought they were really inconsistent today: giving both sides shots in front of goal for infringements that were bordering on non-existent, but then letting lots of things go in the middle of the ground that looked much worse.

And yet amazingly they are always about the same at the end of the game.

Yes we arranged to meet earlier and by the time I realised what a great guy he was the game was over. It was worth it though. I now have a contract cleaning the law courts.

Quite possibly the single worst post on this forum, but at least I comment on things I have actually observed.

yes about five years ago with Whispers in the Sky.

Totally corrupt and covered up by Anderson and the AFL.

Head should have been investigated for corruption.

Disgrace

Umpires have far to much influence over the results of games IMO.

The free's and timings of 50 metre penalties for a player who says the smallest things (see last nights game) is friggin ridiculous.

They are to precious and to much "in" the game as opposed to letting it go a little more.

The game is over officiated and the blatant weekly howlers are swept under the carpet.

I'd like to see the stats of teams and frees paid in the context of "where" on the ground they are paid???

The "deliberately out of bounds" from Montagna a few weeks back was just deplorable.....but according to Gieschen ....correct.
