I have had my SC membership for a least 12 years and I have no plans to give it up. The only reason is that I have been to 4 Grand Finals and I sure as hell am not going to miss the game if we eventually bag on, not holding my breath though. And there in lies the quandary, the club knows it will fill the SC numbers no matter how poorly we perform because of suckers like myself. They have the money there is no need to improve the service as it does not bring more dollars into the club, that is why the SC lost the reserved seating the club discovered they could charge extra for it as a separate entity.
If the club really wants to improve the lot of the SC member then the after match functions need to be better thought out. Forget getting the players to come and talk, they have nothing to say except standard cliches and general platitudes. It is far more interesting when a member of the coaching staff or back office talk as they tend to have a bit more of interesting view point on how things are going.

I'm not giving up SC either. Apart from GF tix I won 4 signed jumpers in raffles last year.
Seriously though I have no problems in paying that little bit extra to the club for the benefit of getting GF tix if we make it. Having said that I can understand people who really struggle financially wanting a bit more for their buck.
Just reread that and it makes me come across as a rich tosser.....i'm not.... I just have some extra cash since I quit smoking

Hasn't felt like a club since Moorabbin, where you were clearly separated from the non members and had facilities that those in the outer could only dream about.Bernard Shakey wrote:It was a social club when I joined many moons ago. It's now a grab for money with no benefits. Can always get GF tickets if you really want them.
These days we all get the same standard of dunny!

Haven't had to wear gumboots to the footy for a long time, and the dunnies in the social club were probably worse than in the outer.Dr Spaceman wrote:Hasn't felt like a club since Moorabbin, where you were clearly separated from the non members and had facilities that those in the outer could only dream about.Bernard Shakey wrote:It was a social club when I joined many moons ago. The last time I went to a post match Victory room function I couldn't hear a thing.
People talked over the speakers.
Total waste of time.

The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.

Re: Social Club Membership Info
The walk up social club seating was the main attraction for our family of 4. Met some great members there (Dave thejiggingsaint) for example and it fostered a great sense of commeraderie. Now its reserved seating only and I'm sure that feeling may still exist but for those of us that cant afford the reserved seating we are punted up to level 3 and stuck amongst teh oppostion supporters. I will keep my social club membership but the rest of the family cant see the value anymore and will probably drop theirs.saintsRrising wrote:Maybe for you.Spinner wrote:
Hasn't been anything else other than free entry to that after match thing, which I sometimes go to after a solid session of kick to kick on the concourse.
Others of us valued the SC seating area that has now just become a reserved seating area.
After match thing...used to be more member focused....now basically just a bar pretending to be a SC.
Small things too..
...one used to get a SC Medallion each year.
...used to have the same 4 digit membership number..now just have a random number each year.
I could go on.....but one used to be a MEMBER and feel some reason to belong...now is just a priority ticket access system.
SC benefits have over the decades just been stripped off.
Clearly there is no intent or effort by the club to foster the SC.
If the reserved seating was the clubs idea I think it was a very poor decision. If however it was forced upon them by Collo and the dome management then that is a separate issue.
I for one feel a sense of loss about the club spirit.
