Pretty hard to attract good players that want more money when we'd be paying close to the cap as it is.saintjake wrote:but there is always trading - of which we are never big players
We would have to release a top player to free up money...Then a good player has to be available and has also got to want to join the Saints.

ray and dawson are good and at least have up-side.
both still pretty skinny and have developing bodies. they also are pretty resilient. they aint injury prone. and neither of them of them would be on big bucks. so not sure why u would move them on.
people who dont watch many saints games (i doubt lyon would have the time to watch any saints games at all ever) still think of zac from 5 years ago.

As I said in an earlier post, there is no easy answer. The decision needs to be made whether it will be a short (2 yrs), medium (3-4 yrs), or longer term (4+yrs) approach.
Richmond and Melbourne tried the long term approach and handled it with disastrous results. Carlton cheated and went under. Sydney took the medium term approach and did ok. Collingwood, the long term approach. Essendon, the medium term and are now ok. I won't go on and on here ........
What made the difference between all of these efforts - "the people managing it" Do we have the right people. Each decision will have its own consequences and the risk will be high.
