Steven and cripps
Can a coach tell them to kick through the ball....ffs
They are meant to be elite kids in australia and struggle with a basic skill....
Toe poking 15m short passes in afl pressure, and toe poking shots from 20m.....
Very easy to fix, they can both kick when they give it a ride....but they both have the habit...Very evident at sandy as well.......try to short pass too often

Steven fluffed a crucial on the run but he;s easily our best set shot at the mo.BigMart wrote:Can a coach tell them to kick through the ball....ffs

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

Lance or James??

Hopefully Cripps now understands the importance of throwing everything into the weights sessions in the gym - big gap in strength to bridge. But bit harsh to question his hardness on two quarters of game time when he's only had a few games at Sandy as preparation. Was beaten for strength more than once, but did seem to be appearing in good locations. We carry many others who in the side who don't seem to have that feel for the game.

Who exactly were in our best in your humble opinion? I'm struggling to find any good players tonight, but would be happy to say Jack and Jamie gave it a red hot go.BigMart wrote:They were not in our best.....they did ok....but are a long way off..
Thats the thing with kids though, they can be a bit off, they are developing
Jack, seems to to be a bit untidy, but is a goer.......
Cripps, bit concerned with his hardness....
Old enough to repaint, but young enough to sell

After seeing Cripps up close at Sandy a couple of weeks back I was convinced that he wouldn't be any chance if player senior footy this year; he has the physique of a 15 year old chess champion. Can't blame him for making sure he doesn't get crunched as he'd most likely die if he did.BigMart wrote:Of course i will.....twice he had a little look....
Bad habit, need it stamped out ver quickly....but it can be, with confidence..
He is a baby, and therfore.....he is excused due to lack of development

Both kids did enough to keep their positions for next week.
However both made crucial mistakes, Stevens with that ridiculous pass to Roo in the third, where really Roo should have stayed back in the goalsquare and urged him to have a shot, or kick it to the hot spot 15 metres out in front of goal.
Cripps similar mistake in the last when he should have had a crack instead trying to centre it to Gilbert in the last.

Except for the sanity nothing much has been lost.
Are we disagreeing he had a look.....
And the only reason he is forgiven is his lack of experience...
Head over the ball is an attitudinal thing, with nothing to do with size.....some players just have in built courage....has nothing to do with size......some have to work on it....some get it through confidence..
Kyle matthews from casey 65kg is the smallest senior footballer ihave. Ever seen....and also one of the most courageous

Cripps and Steven were both very good but made some errors under pressure. I think if a guy kicks a couple of goals and gets a few touches as a sub in his first game he went ok. Steven had a couple of times when he looked messy under pressure, gee the guy has a handful of games and doesn't look composed? He is the closest think top a quick developer we've had for years. The problem with Roo going badly is that he still calls for it even when it isn't the best option. A young guy doesn't pass it to him and misses - he is not going to look good either. Let the kids have some time to develop then criticise them.

Re: Steven and cripps
it's easy to fix by telling the forwards not to give stupid leads to the boundary line fifteen metres away from the guy with the ball. what was riewoldt thinking? the smart kick from steven at that point is to the spot - but riewoldt basically forced him to kick short.BigMart wrote:Very easy to fix, they can both kick when they give it a ride....but they both have the habit...Very evident at sandy as well.......try to short pass too often

harsh mart. hardness always an issue when u are only 19 and 10 kgs under weight. give him a chance. when ur 25 yo and still soft (fiora) it becomes an issue.BigMart wrote:Of course i will.....twice he had a little look....

Are you for real? The boy is playing elite sport. We're not going to trot that out as an excuse every time he doesn't go hard at the pill are we? BigMart's criticism is accurate and possibly a little harsh. But don't make excuses like that for him. If it's stopping him from going hard at the pill, then it's good to know now, as I doubt he'll get another game if that's the case.borderbarry wrote:I doubt if too many of the harder players have type 2 diabetes. I dont know what effect it would have on a sportsman as I was well into my 60's when diagnosed with it. It does make you tired easy and lethargic.
I've never had diabetes, but I'm tipping plenty of blokes have had it and played AFL/VFL over the years.
