The Game Plan

Post: # 1064517Post hungry for a premiership »

In '09, we were the pioneers a a new gamestyle, the "frontal pressure" gameplan, we brought it in and succeeded with it and the game evolved. Collingwood took it to a new level last year, and this year it appears that the game has evolved again and sides are working out how to beat the forward press - mainly with long kicks.

We used to do very well with our "tempo" footy. We could attack and gain a lead, and then just gain possession and just hold on to the ball for many minutes at a time, kick backwards, take uncontested marks, etc. Usually, if a player took a mark and held the ball aloft, it was a sign to play "tempo" footy.

Now, I'm convinved that this style of footy is now totally outdated and we are sitting ducks if we try to use it. Watch the tape from last night and you'll see that after we kicked out to that early three goal lead, and then after Sammy's brain-fade gift goal, a saints player (forget who) takes a mark on the outer wing and holds the ball aloft - tempo footy - and kicks it BACKWARDS to a teamate. From this moment on, the game changes completely, Brisbane are on the attack and its not until into the third quarter that we play the attacking, winning football that we played in the first 10-15 minutes.

Our game plan is outdated! Well, at least the old version of it is, but I for one, trust in Ross. The signs are there that there are new things happening with the game plan. They better start to take effect quicksmart, though, because the days of us being able to play our defensively minded gamestyle and get away with it are gone. There needs to be a greater emphasis on attack.

And it's the new required game plan that's catching out the unskilled, honest players that Ross loves, it's why our poor drafting is now going to bite us on the arse.....

Six debutants for the Saints so far in Season 2024. :D

Seems like the truth to me, this post.

(Not sure what we're going to do about it though.)

the only thing we can do

relax !

as supporters and players

the more relaxed you are , the less intense shall be the experience

the 'experience' will still happen .... obviously

so , relax instead of reacting

... the answers will bubble up into the present without the angst ridden sideshow of the past , clouding the issues at hand
