Enjoy the easter break. I hope the discussion hasn't caused any angst.

I'm happy for everyone to have a day off once a year. There's plenty of days between October and March that could be used.St Igmata wrote:I know, but if youre going to copy Rugby as a blueprint to success maybe rethink?bergsone wrote:I never just said america, now see sport being played in other states rugby etc, might just be a matter of timeSt Igmata wrote:Just pointing out that not everything they do in the USA is a great idea.
Soz
Rugby woi;d be a huge hit in the Western Suburbs come Easter Friday. Canterbury Bulldogs the Easter Friday specialists?

Religion or not.
Whats embrassing about a family day with your family away from distractions and for many praying in church?Enrico_Misso wrote:It is a ridiculous throwback to the days when Mannix and his choirboy loving friends had undue influence over the Victorian Government.
Only a small minority of brainwashed "thinkers" will actually be attending church today.
So why should the rest of us be denied AFL to appease them?
I doubt if there are any religious services on in the afternoon, so why not a game then?
A great opportunity exists for us to push for a Good Friday MCG blockbuster - 2pm each Good Friday.
Since the AFL creates and allows certain clubs to unfairly monopolise days like Anzac day and QB Holiday, then perhaps rather than fight for fairness we should create our own day.
What better day for us than Good Friday.
And put an end to this 19th century embarrassment.

embrassing is not having anything to do on a day your day isnt structured for you .
Or Gold Coast V Western Sydney.Enrico_Misso wrote:Nothing!St Igmata wrote:Whats embrassing about a family day with your family away from distractions and for many praying in church?Enrico_Misso wrote:It is a ridiculous throwback to the days when Mannix and his choirboy loving friends had undue influence over the Victorian Government.

But why should someone else tell me which day to do it?
It would be fantastic to be at the G today with 70,000 people watching StK play say Hawthorn.
I've then got Sat, Sun or Mon (or Tues this year) to choose when and what to do with my family.
I assume your tolerance extends to all religions and occassionsstinger wrote:no way......i would never go...and i don't see why any saint's players with similar held views should be forced to play football on this sacred of sacred days ffs.....glad the government of the day and the afl agrees with me, rather than you....well for now anyway....
Cut out the religo nonsense.AnythingsPossibleSaints wrote:Good call Debi. Good to see you were able to put forward your views without denigrating anyone, unlike so many on here who seem to be only able to feel good about themselves by putting others down.
Hmmm...They seem to happily work Easter Saturday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday.SaintDebi wrote:Therefore Christians should not be obliged to work on Good Friday. I like this post. I am not a christian, think it is all a fairy tale believed by people who are ignorant, but thats cool, they can believe what they like as long as they dont try to ram their fairytales doen my throat.SaintDebi wrote:I'm a Christian. I hate fish but I don't eat meat on Good Friday- more as tradition due to my late nanna than out of any religeous belief. I love the idea of family time, but to be honest I find Good Friday to be the most boring and my least favourite day of the year.
Would I watch football if it was played on Good Friday- yes I would. Would I go to the game- most likely if we were playing. Do I think there should be football on Good Friday? No I don't.
If you choose not to use Good Friday for any form of religeous observance is entirely up to you. I respect anybody's choice not to share my religeous veiws. However the fact is you are able to enjoy your long weekend courtesy of a public holiday that is given in reverence of Christianity. Therefore Christians should not be obliged to work on Good Friday. If you can find enough players, coaches, support staff, umpires, boot studders, record sellers, security, ground staff, pie sellers, parking attendants...... who would ungrudgingly work without feeling that their beliefs were at all compromised then I'm fine with it.
I have no problem with that. As I said, as long as nobody who would prefer not to observe the Christian holiday is forced or coerced in any way then there is no reason not to play on Good Friday.saintspremiers wrote:Cut out the religo nonsense.AnythingsPossibleSaints wrote:Good call Debi. Melbourne is full of Indians and Asians who don't celebrate Easter.
Plenty of them would love the penalty rates for working on a Public Holiday.
In fact, plenty of Christians would live the high $$$ on offer also.
It is a govt gazetted holiday, the govt gives me it off not a religion. I dont get ramadan or Hannaka (sic?) off work even if i am Muslim or Jewish. I dont get Buddist or Hindu religious holidays off even if i was of one of those religions.SaintDebi wrote: The fact remains it IS a religeous holiday. If you are not religeous, fine. Accept the day off graciously without ridiculing the followers whose religion gives you that day off.
You views are nonesense in my opinion. You can say what you like about my views as well, couldn't care less.SaintDebi wrote: I agree with your view that football would be great to watch on Good Friday. I disagree with your view that it should be played- unless it can happen without the willing contribution of practicing Christians.
Although your views are not totally compatible with mine I don't call your views nonsense. Please show me the same respect for mine.
