Goddard to GWS in 2012??
Just heard on the footy show that GWS are targeting goddard at the end of 2012 when he comes out of contract, this could very well happen if we fail this year.
Sainter for life.
joke...isn't he signed to end of 2013?

Oh well if it is on the footy show it must be true.
2012 is two seasons off.

Lance or James??

By then Goddard could be even higher rated than he is now, so it's very conceivable he could be offered $2mil per year to go up there, especially if they're unable to attract many other big names, as is apparently the case.
I think we should all start saving up now for the chip-in to keep him. Maybe a sausage sizzle or two to raise some cash?

Regardless of any other factors I can't see BJ heading to GWS unless he already has a premiership medal around his neck.PJ wrote:Yep following the GC example I'm sure BJ would love playing for a team that will get flogged for the 1st 2 years of their existence.
Given his temper with getting done at present he's bound to enjoy the experience.

Even then I'd say he has his sights on the captaincy. I can't see him wanting to captain a side that loses by 100 points every week.Regardless of any other factors I can't see BJ heading to GWS unless he already has a premiership medal around his neck.
I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

I'm inclined to agree.mbogo wrote:Losing Goddard would be the worst thing ever to happen to St Kilda - and that is saying something!
I do hope that if it is a serious proposition to him that he makes his decision quickly, and gets back to playing his best.
*Allegedly.

What will they pay the rest of the squad then - especially if they get any of Scully, Walker or other high profile players as wellSaintSimmo wrote:doubt it, if gws could offer goddard $2 million a year for say 4 years thats $8 million dollars.....hard to refuse.stinger wrote:joke...

One thing in our favour is that, as bad as Gold Coast have been so far this year, GWS are likely to be much, much worse, next year.
If what Barrett said on the Footy Show is true, that they've practically given up on getting a whole lot of "uncontracted's" at the end of this year, they're going to have a team practically full of "kids" next year.
At least the GC have Ablett, Brown, Richetelli, Brennan, Bock, Harbrow, Fraser, etc, this year. Apparently GWS won't have anywhere near that amount of senior talent in their first season. 150 point losses could be the norm, especially early.
It could be a disastrous start to their club. The NSW rugby press will also have a field day!

Big deal, it's a business.
If he goes, he goes.
We'll move on.
If my job offered me 500K p.a. and a similar area offered me 1-2 mil p.a. in an industry that had a limited lifespan (i.e. 5-15 years) I would JUMP at it, as you all would.
I absolutely love his heart and soul as a Saint, but realistically..I wouldn't be hanging around if that was offered.

One way they could get around that would be to "front-end" some contracts and "back-end" others.MCG-Unit wrote:What will they pay the rest of the squad then - especially if they get any of Scully, Walker or other high profile players as wellSaintSimmo wrote:doubt it, if gws could offer goddard $2 million a year for say 4 years thats $8 million dollars.....hard to refuse.stinger wrote:joke...
As they apparently won't be getting many on big contracts for next year, they could make sure that anyone they do sign up at the end of this season was on heavily front-ended contracts, with the bulk of it being paid to them next year.
ie. if they signed Scully, for instance, they could pay him say $2.5mil for 2012 and then say $1mil for every year of his contract after that (2013 and beyond). And if they signed Walker, for instance, they could pay him say $1mil for 2012 and say $500k for every year of the contract after that.
That way they'd have extra money to play around with to offer someone like BJ, for 2013 and beyond.
I expect that's what I'd do, if I were them.
