Re: Premiership window just slammed shut??
In retrospect, it was some time between when Angus Graham clumsily tripped Lenny and Lenny started screaming in agony in the middle of the MCG.jroberts:) wrote:I dunno, has it?

Agreed.borderbarry wrote:Call me naive if you will, but I still think we can do it with our current list, just not the current team.
We will struggle to make finals this year. But with the talent available who will still be available 2012-4 (Roo, BJ, Dal, Joey, Lenny, Sam Fisher - all A graders) we can still make an impact with this group. No quick fixes available, but the mission for this season is to pump games into the young players to see who will stand up - any reload is 100% dependent on whether we can produce/develop around 4 or 5 B grade players.
Obviously vital that RL can get the senior players on board with this philosophy so that none of them bugger off elsewhere.

A perfect summation of what confronts us, except that we also remain a show to make the finals this year: you can't give up after 3 rounds!!Richter wrote:Agreed.borderbarry wrote:Call me naive if you will, but I still think we can do it with our current list, just not the current team.

Agree it might be atruggle but with some change of attitude and motivation improvement as we approach the finals its always a possibility. Just need the leadership group to step up now to arrest the basics lack of effort being shown recently.borderbarry wrote:Call me naive if you will, but I still think we can do it with our current list, just not the current team.
Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.
You need to protect the ball handler to increase posession efficiency

Yep we failed in 1997 also by one game to win the prize despite being worse off than our currnt position.Furphy wrote:Not looking good, we've already lost more games after round three than we did in '09 (excluding GF)
Always a chance at this early stage.

I have not understood the optimism for this year. The two "up and coming teams" were Saints and Cats. Everyone is writing the Cats off as too old and yet they have recruited better than us as is evident already this year. One free kick and they could have been in GF last year!
Both teams are in similar positions. Can't write them off and expect miracles from our list.
