Not directly relating to the Saints, but we get mentioned in the article.
I do agree with his criticism of Essendon.
Patrick has been unwell for some months and only returned to writing yesterday.

"Nothing to do with us."
But it has:
"....and St Kilda has a 24-hour suicide watch on its coach Ross Lyon who has become the only man in living memory to read the front of the paper with both a lawyer and therapist in attendance..."
Also, Patrick Smith changing clubs is relevant to this forum because many posters here over the years have vehemently disagreed with his opinions.

Don't like the man, but I give him credit for this line. Very goodSt George wrote:"....and St Kilda has a 24-hour suicide watch on its coach Ross Lyon who has become the only man in living memory to read the front of the paper with both a lawyer and therapist in attendance..."

What a pompous, grandstanding wanker. I too thought the bombers were deceitful in the way they went about sacking Knights and getting Hird. If you support the club though, why would you care as long as it benefits the club? Reminds me of the wankers who claimed they were quitting their memberships b/c of the dramas over summer.

The relevance of his pieces are consistently a mystery to me.
I can never understand why his articles are even written.
They are never anything more than just a surly old man having a whinge. He has no ties with anyone or any club, and never breaks a story.
Never talks about the footy itself with any insight either.
And all of this is littered with misfired attempts at humour at other people's expense and witless sarcasm.
Whenever I read one of his articles, all I am left with is a feeling that he's mocked someone, but I'm not sure why. It's like he has something he wants to get off his chest, but never actually says it.
On top of all that, I generally completely disagree with the guy.

He's been mentally dysfunctional for nigh on twenty years.St George wrote:Patrick has been unwell for some months and only returned to writing yesterday.
Used to write complete drivel in his "Age" days in the 90s.
And appears to have regressed since.
Abandoning his club shows just what a person of low morality he is.
The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.

When he removes the tongue from his cheek and hits a target (his piece on the horse jumps a while back was excellent) he writes well. Mostly though his crotchety ramblings are just funny. I think people are taking him too seriously. And lets face it, you don't take just a little joy from someone hanging (highly deserved) s*** on the Bombers?
"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'
He was on SEN today and he is very much serious. Cant agree on the jumping either. Totally against Patrick on all his horse racing ideas.Thinline wrote:When he removes the tongue from his cheek and hits a target (his piece on the horse jumps a while back was excellent) he writes well. Whaling is cruel, callous, unnecessary and validated by perpetrators on spurious grounds of historical merit.

That statement is just crap and over the top crap. Facts would be good.Thinline wrote:Whaling is cruel, callous, unnecessary and validated by perpetrators on spurious grounds of historical merit.

I will give some of my own facts. Part owned 3 horses. All no good on the flat. 2 were sprinters and thus couldnt jump. Gave them to friends but they then sold them to the Knackery. Died a painless death but died way to early. The other became a jumper and won us plenty of money. We kept him on a farm and pay agistment and is still going today. Yes I know he could have fallen over and died as about 3% do but id rather go with the odds and give these horses a chance to live.
So it is probably an painless death for 25% of horses that go to the knackery or a painfull death for 3% that do jumps. I say jumping is good for horses. It gives them a second chance.
