The role of a Mod is not to censor the conversation unless it breaks rules.
Just because you think a conversation has run it's course, doesn't mean it actually has.
Really very irritating.
For every one person who thinks like you that it should be allowed to die it's own death there is another that was asking for it to be locked days earlier.
I feel that we gave it enough time for people to say what they wanted to say.
Whilst this one may have not broken any specific rules (where other threads have been locked because of consistent rule breaking) it still just isn't a good look for the website or the club IMO.
Trash threads on malicious rumours like that serve no good purpose - free speech or otherwise.
I woke this morning and didnt feel my rights had been stripped from me due to a locked thread on SS.
Keep up the good work.
It's good that you didn't feel that your rights had been stripped but your ambivalence isn't shared by the majority.
Lets start a topic - "Political Correctness and Moral Do Gooders......are they just another form of censorship?"
I thought you "rights crusaders" could roll with the punches...........clearly not...
Those demanding "free speech" are now questioning my "right" to hold a view that ...in this particular threads case.......censorship is warranted..
I do think censorship has a place in society - otherwise creep kiddy crawlers would have a field day on those unprotected (and lest be honest....the innocent suffer as some parents can't/don't care).

Not sure that the issue here is free speech. It's more about who has editorial rights..and those that put the screws on them via pm.Teflon wrote: LOL appears so. Still, I find this thread ironic thus far.......

Censorship may well be good. It really depends on who is doing it.

The question is - who do you trust with that power? Clearly not me, because I disagree with that thread being locked.
Would you trust someone that you had no influence over?

To a degree Fireman - we do have some dumb posters... Ok, Im not being serious but Rodgerfox springs to mind. The Fireman wrote:So I guess what you are saying Tef is that you believe the posters on here aren't intelligent enough to be able to cope with threads of certain types ?
Look, without banging on about this all night (I have Collingwood fans at BF I need to deride...time permitting this evening..) I am saying that in cases like the "non existent vid thread" (that had 5 pages of free speech...plenty of time to at least determine if there were any facts at all) that on some occasions I agree with mods making a stand and locking the thread.
TBH - I think threads should be locked when they are malicious, unfounded rumours/attacks....OR when their sole purpose is obviously to disrupt the forum. Ofcourse, thats only my view...

But keeping it real on a footy fan site I have to trust in the mods. Sure, they'll get it wrong on occasions, but theyre all we've got....and I shudder at the thought of this place without anyone looking after its operation.
Im getting a tatt: "In Mods We Trust".

I think that this a reasonable opinion, and you are certainly entitled to express it.Teflon wrote: TBH - I think threads should be locked when they are malicious, unfounded rumours/attacks....OR when their sole purpose is obviously to disrupt the forum. Ofcourse, thats only my view...
I was not that enamoured with the thread in question, however it is my opinion that the endless rumour mongering that has engulfed our club along with some factual incidents needs to be met head on.
Any peanut can get on the net and say "player %^ is rumoured to have %$^& a *(&^ in full view of several people from )(&^%$*(*"
My view is expose the lies/crap. Attack it. The has been enough real s*** to deal with that surely we are hard enough to deal with bulls***?
The other point I would make is that the mod in question suggested that he had been pressured via pm to lock the thread. If this is the way that these decisions are made then surely we should ALL pressure the mods with our opinions - not just the elite censorship brigade.

so basically the club or someone from the club that actually reads/posts here TOLD moderators to move it
"OR when their sole purpose is obviously to disrupt the forum"
ohhh
like trolls
from opp teams
that are constantly allowed to post here?
see this is what amazes me, a few pms and a thread is gone.
yet 20 odd people whine about a troll opp supporter and nothing is done.
WE pay for this site, if it wasnt for a lot of people here, there would be NO site.
and if mods or admin edit posts can they put a reason at the bottom of the post and who edited it
its common decency

I am in agreement with Teflon on this issue.
Actually this thread should be moved as it does not relate to football but administration of the forum.
I have always said you abide by the forum rules and the moderators discretion.
If you dont like it, you are free not to post or read this thread.
If you are really against aspects of this forum, you can start alternative, forums, facebook pages etc, as other have.
Really it is not that big a deal in the scheme of things.
