Interstate Football Games
Can someone give me an idea about the best way to go about traveling to the Gold Coast for our game in July. I know it is our first trip the the GC but people my have an idea from previous trips interstate.
The AFL events office is offering packages for $715 all inclusive.
Does the club also offer packages? or is it best to organise yourself
Any help would be appreciated.

i say this every year
be careful with tiger
they can change the times of the flight quite late if they have probs with a plane
i was due to fly into melbs at nooonish one day and they changed it to arrive after the first bouince because one of the planes was down.
of course no refund of 90 bucks if you cancalled
so i bite the bullet and went with jetstar
i know peeps that have flown with tiger many times and never had a prob.
yet i had one before my first take off
ill never go with them but thats my personal choice
virgin or jetstar all the way for me

There's a free shuttle bus from pacific fair shopping centre, it's about a 10 minute trip. Be careful after the game though, the bus leaves before the fan get together finishes!!!ando051 wrote:Cheers for your help, I wont be going Tiger, been caught out before with a 15hr delay in Perth.
Does anyone know the price for a Taxi from Broadbeach to Carrara?
Jetstar have flights now for $104 one way. The AFL airline Virgin is about $60 more expensive at the moment. Go figure.
Carrara is still in the midde of nowhere....not many cabs 1 hr after the game....

You also need to allow travel from the airport.
GC Airport is about 15-20 mins drive from Broadbeach so a taxi or hire car is needed. I believe there is a bus but i don't know how reliable or expensive it is.
Guessing based on Melb prices taxi would be about $30 each way. Hire car (could be the go if you wanted to do other things up there) for 1.5 days around $175-$200 (around $100 if you hire the car for under 24 hours).

$6.10 to travel 4 zones or $6.90 for 5 zones one way with a paper ticket.
With a Go Card it's $3.52 for 4 zones or $4.02 for 5 zones one way off peak.

Re: Interstate Football Games
Doing a package deal can be quite expensive, personally I would just keep an eye out for cheap fares. Don't be put off by Tiger, all airlines have problems, its part of cheap travel. I travel with Tiger all the time and have never had a problem.ando051 wrote:Can someone give me an idea about the best way to go about traveling to the Gold Coast for our game in July. It is half an hour from the airport to Broadbeach. I would not suggest public transport as it does not stop directly at the airport and can be a bit tricky to find the stop and a bit of a walk with luggage. A taxi is around $45.
As advised by others Broadbeach is the best place to stay and confirming also that you can catch a bus from Pacific Fair Shopping Centre to the game and return.
There will be a function, will post details closer to the time.

from previous experience - ok vs Victorian teams- tickets not a problem...ando051 wrote:Does anyone know when tickets go on sale for the games at Gold Coast Stadium? I don't want to book flights and accommodation and find out i can not get a ticket other than the ones in the AFL packages to see the Mighty Saints.
I note they allow 1 bay designated for away fans-- pretty sure there will be more than that
how many is the new seating supposed to hold?

Just to let anyone know that maybe interested. Peppers Broadbeach which is a 5 star hotel has a very good special at the moment called 'Hot Getaway Special' which is $193 per night for a 2 bedroom ocean view room for the weekend we play the Gold Coast. You will not get any cheaper, i have looked everywhere!

Tiger is cheap 'n nasty.
I've copped a few delays with them, plus their checkin was shytehouse.
As my wife has reminded me - don't be tight - pay a few bucks more and go with a different airline, it aint worth the hassle/risk!

We went up for the Sydney game in round 1 last year.
I phoned the club before hand to ask which bays were saints bays as when I was trying to buy tickets, the cheaper ones were only coming up next to the Swans cheersqaud and not at the Saints end.
The club gave us free tickets. I only phoned up to get advice about how to buy tickets in the Saints area, but the club offered them as I was a "travelling member" they said. They were fantastic seats. Just a few rows behind the cheersquad.
The only problem was picking them up. They only send them out a few days before the game. As we drove up and went to a few other places and made a bit of a holiday out of it, we weren't able to get the tickets before we left. They club ended up leaving them for us to pick up at the gate. It was a bit of a pain, but well worth it. We had tried to do the trip on a shoestring budget with the kids so free tickets (and great ones at that) was such a bonus and much appreciated.
