So St George are okay with all the Kimi, and Kimi related crap but are looking to pull the pin because we've signed a legally operated betting agency as a sponsor?plugger66 wrote:I have heard that due to getting centrebet as a sponsor we may be losing St George. Dont know what truth is in it though.
What a truly amazing world we live in these days

Fast food is a far bigger problem to our society than gambling is. Fast food kills more people, it ruins more lives and is a growing problem.stinger wrote:goddardisgod wrote:Prefer it to Fast food.
Really similar. The majority of people control themselves and only havenit occasionally, but some can't control themselves.
Fast food impacts on a person far more than gambling does. Don't go all self-righteous on me.
that right?....so some fast food addicts kill themselves do they.....???
People with gambling problems will gamble regardless, the point of this sponsorship is just so those people will give their money to centrebet instead of TAB... I honestly can't believe that people view this as an issue.

If pokies are a huge problem then they need to be banned across the state.Armoooo wrote:People with gambling problems will gamble regardless, the point of this sponsorship is just so those people will give their money to centrebet instead of TAB... But if that's not going to happen, and it won't, why should everyone other than AFL clubs be allowed to share in the spoils

It is not up to the Stkilda football club to be the guardians and bearers and standard-setters of social morality, all they are supposed to do it play football. Centrebet is is a company that society is in favour of, just like cigarette companies and alcohol companies. Is this St.Kilda's problem - NO. Should St.Kilda spend valuable time that it could be using getting better at the business of playing football worrying about whether or not society has got it's morals in order and whether or not it is inadvertently supporting some part of this percieved unethicalness - NO.

Fair enough but I disagree.
Cardiovascular diseased is the biggest killer in the country and it's getting worse and this doesNt take into account the people who it basically disables.
However if McDonald's wanted to sponsor us I'd be in full support of it. People need to take responsibilty for their own behaviour.

People are as addicted to Fast Food as they are to Gambling. I have to disagree with you on that.Armoooo wrote:Moccha wrote:I reckon drugs are a bigger issue than fast foodsArmoooo wrote:Fast food is a far bigger problem to our society than gambling is. I like Maccas just as much as the next guy, just as I like a good punt. But both are actively addictive, as are cigarettes and porn. Got a mate who's addicted to the last one. Sad but funny in it's way.

Problem gambling must be a freaking nightmare to deal with in a family.
I wont be using Centrebet. The end. I just don't get any enjoyment out of losing my money.
If they want to pay a few million to the club over a few years then good luck to them. Welcome aboard.
Personally I would prefer it to be a different industry, but in the end, the club and to a lesser extent I cannot be responsible for someone else's gambling issues.

Still reckon Ansell would have been a better fit.

How often does somebody gamble too much that they clog their arteries to the point where they have a heart attack at the age of 40?Winmar wrote:I'm not sure who the last person murdered as a result of fast food was, or the last person whose husband/wife ate so many burgers they had to sell the family home. Cardiovascular disease is the biggest killer in Australia, more than cancer.
Australia is one of the fattest nations in the world and obesity rates are only going to continue.
So in my opinion fast food does ruin more lives than drugs and gambling.
But I am only going by the Australian Bureau of Statistics...

It's not just the food, it's the lack of exercise that goes with eating the food.
Plus you will find these people also eat all the wrong stuff which they buy from the supermarket, not a burger.
Of you are going to ban fast food, you would have to close down every corner burger, fish and chip, chicken, oriental etc outlet in the country, not just the ones with the large golden M's out the front.
I have no problem with our sponsor, a lot better than Phillip Morris who we had a few years ago.

Except for the sanity nothing much has been lost.

I completely understand where you are coming from. Believe me I'm no anti-junk food campaigner. I am just trying to counter the arguments against us taking centrebet as a sponsor.3rd generation saint wrote:It's not just the food, it's the lack of exercise that goes with eating the food.

Trust me it is. It is awful, no different to a drug addict.bigred wrote:Problem gambling must be a freaking nightmare to deal with in a family.
However having a family member that has gone through a serious gambling addiction .....I have no problem with them as a sponsor. I'm not going to open an account just because they are on our jumper. Just like I didn't buy any doors, change my mortgage or drink Tooheys Red!! As long as they are pumping $$$ into the club I don't care. I am wise enough to make my own choises.

Seriously.
Apparently most of our players are bonking each other, some are turning 12 year old girls into octomums and the rest are playing with their dongers like someone practicing for the brass section of a big band.
And yet some posters are concerned that the name Centrebet appears on the left breast of our jumper!
As John Lennon once sang, "strange days indeed, most peculiar momma"
