Defining Year....

Post: # 1039283Post Finna »

I havent seen a thread on this so I thought I'd start one.....

Which 3 players will have a defining year on the field this year?

Which fringe player is going to go up another level or which newbie is going to pick up a regular senior spot

Here's mine:
(in no particular order)

1. Jack Steven
2. Armo.
3. Lynch

(cripps as my dark horse)

What does everyone else think?

Id settle for them playing well enough, much less have "defining years",to play about 20 games each. Our young up and comers doing well, and the sheer lack of them, is truly frigtening.

Well if these players are given consistency with games I reckon they will get a hell of a lot better.
I think if A. Smith has bulked up he will impress. He is quick and goes hard.
As for Dave. He comes off contract at the end of this year.

If this isn't the year then maybe a career in Carpentery might summon.

Well it was good enough for Jesus...

Seriously, I hope he absolutely s***s it in. More than any other player I really want Armo to achieve his potential. The player he can be, a hard nut, ball winning, occasional marking option and pop up out of nowhere goal kicker, IMO, is just so invaluable.

On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

Armitage

McEvoy

Steven

Gamble

Heyne (The club seem to rate him!)

Seriously how much of a penalty is it for those 3 young ones that f***ed up... Probably especially Cahill because the other two will play this year hopefully. Missing a real chance to impress....

I hope Steven and Armo come good this year and I have high expectations of where they should get to this year.

Simpkin and Al Smith are a couple I am quietly optimistic about also Gill.

I would love Tommy Walsh to get a couple of games and Stanley to get a bit better at holding his marks and finding space.

Gamble is a quality player and should take a spot off Mini or at least push him to play like 09.

My hope is that a fit Raph and Kosi show the world what got the high expectations in the first place.

I haven't seen Lynch show anything that would suggest he is going to be a regular yet though.

Agree except to say that if Cahill is to have a career at our club beyond 2011 he was always gonna have to show something special at Sandy throughout the year.

In that respect not much has really changed.

I reckon Sammy Gilbert can take a massive step forward this year and become an elite player.

Also Jack Steven to show something and Armitage to become a regular player.

The usual suspects of course (McEvoy, Armo, Steven, Smith etc)

With these guys they've already shown a bit and we're looking for natural improvement.

But what I'd really like to see is a young kid come from nowhere. Could be a first year player, could be a rookie, could be a Lynch or a Heyne. Other clubs seem to get these surprise packets and I reckon it's time for Saints fans to get a surprise - well a good news surprise anyway!

I reckon it will need to be a defining year for Armo and Steven, no idea about new recruits, though Gamble may be useful, but the rest of the B team doesn't give me much hope. Raph and Kosi will need to get their bodies and minds right, as they just haven't done enough in their careers as a result of injury or whatever, and time is ticking by for them.

Would like to think Armo and McEvoy to be the big improvers, with Steven, Stanley, Cripps and A.Smith showing some flare as well.

If Tommy Walsh is to play ANY games this year he will need to be promoted from the rookie list.

Tommy Walsh is a lock to be elevated again this year.

Wont someone have to get a long term injury for Walsh to be upgraded? I would love to see Armo and Steven go really well. And would like to see big improvement in McEvoy and Zac. Would like some more consistancy from Koz, Dal and Joey. And Mini, shape up or ship out.........

They may put Gardiner on the LTI and upgrade Tommy?

Smith
Armo
Simpkin

Handy contributor: Gamble
Wing and a Prayer: Winmar/Walsh
Generation Next: Stanley/Cripps
Duds: Polo
I also think Farren Ray might step a notch from fringe to core.
