ROO is obviously the highest paid player at the club and there is a huge gap between his salary and the players he is trying to influence. Which if I was; say Jarryd GEARY I would be thinking there is no way this guy is worth 8 x times what I am being paid.
I have always thought he was emotionally a bit soft and would rather a more working class captain and a more evenly paid list.
What a load of crap. Is he a pretty boy because of the blond hair or is the courage it took to take one of the greatest marks ever taken against the Swans in 2004.
And is Roo worth 8X Geary, Id say yes and a bit more. Who joins or continues to be a member because of Geary compared to Rooy.
Love to know where this pretty boy stuff is shown. Dont see him doing a great deal of modelling or even much advertising.
Wow you really are an offensive f...wit Plugger66.
I wonder if ROO was asked to take a %50 pay cut would he still be at our club - I doubt it. When has he fired when it has mattered - not once. Over rated and over targeted as a key forward. Soft pretty boy. How many players has he physically intimidated throughout his time.
Please correct me if I'm mistaken, but isn't this the same poster who started a thread not long ago to say he was leaving??

If so, it's a real shame he didn't stay away.
Sorry Mr Magic that wasn't me. Although I have questioned whether I would renew my membership. Perhaps I shouldn't have renewed, as obviously being a member doesn't entitle me to question our systems and doubt our clubs choose in Captain.
SAINTS another day older another day closer to the Holy Grail!
Wow, WinnersOnly you have certainly let loose there! Comparisons to C Jones?? LOL.
Roo has been an absolute champion at our club. The number of times he has lifted us from the brink and brought us back into a match has been so regular I have lost count.
He has led very well, a leader amongst other leaders, those like Lenny and BJ. Our club is not about 1 man, we would not have made consecutive Grand Finals otherwise.
You are entitled to your opinion of course, but I reckon you might have a bitter taste left over from the last couple of difficult years, and indeed a short memory.
I reckon it might be worth checking through some of the best players in finals over the last few years, you might get a surprise at who features regularly for the Saints.

Me thinks Winners is must be getting confused as he is talking utter shite.
Rooey (as well as many other players) did take a pay cut, so they could all stay together (just like Brissy) and to fit other players into the salary cap.
Roo runs almost every opponent he has off their feet. Why do you think he gets double and trippled teamed?
Here is an example of his courage and leadership....PF 2010. Out for the count and having what looked like some sort of fit. He willed himself out of it, jumped up, dusted himself off and went on to kick a number of goals to help us win the match.
I think I will now let others spank you for you idiotic post
I said he was a great player - but I dont believe he is a great Captain and stand by that!
Peake and C Jones run their opponents off their feet does that make them Captain material. Did it help him in any of the GF's not once - I would rather a player who can stand his ground and not get pushed under the ball.
Why do you think Hamill went so well. He was obsulutely fierce at the player and the ball. Hamill had the opposition looking over their shoulders - they were intimidated by his presence which allowed Roo do do his work. When the flag needs to be flown for his team mates where is Reiwoldt ?
In actual fact HAYES and Monty had to stand ground for him on one occasions v Lions.
The fact that he continued to play after getting slam tackled - well whoopy doo! How many times a game do Hayes, Goddard, ect do that.
ROO is exactly the reason our club has not in recent times acheived the ultimate sucess. We idolise individuals and rather than team efforts, as a team footballer he is 'soft' and self indulged !
NFI - without Riewoldt the Saints wouldn't have made the last 2 GF's.
Very narrow minded view and not sure on the comparison with Hamill....I think Roo leads by example and how would any of us know exactly the lay of the land anyway, without being behind the scenes you can't have a accurate picture of 'leadership'.
But the perception of the general footy public will be that he is sooky, self obsessed and paranoid about media attention.
He will be the most abused player in the competition this year.
Expect opposition supporters to boo and jeer him constantly.
In some ways he has brought this upon himself by being so forthright.
Hopefully this will just spur him on to stick it right up everyone.
The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.
They can even WATCH LIVE FOOTY!
My love for Rooey is undiminished, in fact strengthened by events of the last couple of years.
He has given his all, along with the whole team...Lenny, BJ etc...love 'em all.
How much has he had to put up with, not the least of which are injuries? Only to be criticised by fat morons who wouldn't last a minute in the maelstrom of elite AFL Football?
Please don't talk about money...these guys deserve every piece of the action they can get. Can you imagine how much the AFL is raking in? The players are the ones who put on the show.
Nothing I'd love better than to see Rooey, with a full season under his belt, lead us out into the Finals again
L
...and lead us out of the wilderness to the Promised Land!
In honour of those who went before, in the dark and desperate years.

lol - you post that like your opinion has some sort of credibility
You stand by it - pfft, fair dinkum some nobody internet warrior stands by his ill thought out, ignorant and stupid opinion.
Yeah OK, we are all impressed by your magnificent insight, and you having such courage in the face of adversity
Riewoldt is a pretty boy you reckon - from that utterance any opinion you have is a worthless piece of assanine crap.
Lance or James??

I am an offensive f***wit because I said you wrote a load of crap. How easliy do yo get upset. I didnt have a go at you as such just thought it was crap and explained why. Confuses me how you can be offensive for that. You must really have fun at the footy if that upsets you.
By the way what is that crap about a 50% cut in pay and still be at our club. Why would anyone agree to that. How is your 50% cut in pay going at your job.
This thread makes one scared to say otherwise, but what the hey, I feel strongly about it.
I really think Roo is probably the most awesome player I have ever seen....
When (not if) we make the GF again, it is going to be entirely, and I mean en-tire-ly....about how Roo needs to lead the team to a premiership, how he needs to win it off his boot. Nothing else, not about the team, not about Ross, it will be all about how Nick 'needs' to have a premiership next to his name.
Can people fathom that, basically think last years hype, but times a million pressure and expectation wise.
I don't see how handing over the captaincy to someone else is disrespecting him, it's just letting someone else shoulder some of the burden.
As I said, I don't believe we can win a premiership without him at his best...I am obviously alone in my sentiment that captaining the side to yet another GF, may not be the best way for him to give us his best.
and it's just going to build people...and build, and build some more.

Calling a great STKFC player, a man you has won 4 B&F's in good teams a pretty boy and a poor leader is venting.
Saying you think Hayes is a better leader is an opinion.
