Best & Worst Field Kick?

Post: # 1025969Post SaintWodonga »

This NOT about kicking for goal.

Who do you rate as our best and worst in general play?

Best = BJ
Worst = Jones

Tony Lockett kicks 10 goals

I suspect you're right so this should be a very short thread :)

I think Jones LOOKS bad, but I reckon Gilbert's the worst easily. Just as well he's a gun at everything else! Imagine what he could be...

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

Sadly in the last couple of years Jason Gram has gone from somewhere not far behind Goddard to somewhere not far ahead of Jones / Gilbert.

I think Grams kicking was affected by his hip operation

Another opportunity awaits!

Time will tell...I hope you're right as we need his run and penetration with accuracy.

Gilbert gets a pass mark for me because at least he's ambitious with his kicking.

We have too many players who aren't at all ambitious with their kicking. Jones, Baker, Ray (who never even kicks it forwards), Blake, and to a lesser extent McQualter are all safe kicks rather than ambitious kicks.

The best field kicks would be Goddard, Dal Santo & Gwilt.

Gram's kicking looks worst than it is IMO because of the options he picks.
Has a tendency to bomb it long to where opposition have numbers

Jones really brought the helicopter lick into his game from about the 1/2way point of the year.
Under pressure, he tries to kick it long but the ball just seems to go up

Peake can be kind of ordinary too when he doesn't have much time

Hard to make an argument that anyone is better than Goddard.

Gwilt is certainly one you would back. Very composed under pressure, very little risk to his kicking.

In field play, Riewoldt is quite a good kick too.

Another reason to hope Winmar comes through. From all reports his foot skills are superb.

Let's hope young Nicholas "kicks on" :)

Goddard/Gwilt

Worst, would be another combined effort IMO.

Goddard is the undoubted standout. He's our best since Winmar. Goddard's field kicking is on par with Nathan Buckley's.

Best field kick between Goddard and Gwilt and Montagna..if you count hitting a target (not the opposition or out of bounds) with a long kick as the criteria. Bad is a juggle between many of the other senior players..Gilbert, Peake, Roo, Jones, the delisted Eddy. Thats why RL has made comments about improving skills -field kicking being a big worry IMHO

Roo worked alot on his kicking last summer and was doing beautifully till he got injured. Im predicting a massive improvement from him next year.

so whats ur point? hes miles from the best and miles from the worst.

i agree BJ is the best. But farren ray is also an outstanding field kick.

gram and peake are absolutely terrible. some of the kicks they serve up under no pressure at all beggars belief.

Goddard = Best in Comp. Best ever saint

Now for the poorest ever saint

He would have to be a ranga

He would have to have worn #34

He would have to have left the club, only to return

Jayson (JACK) Daniels

None of the current crop will rival our Jack !!

NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

Difficult to line up players from different eras but you're right, The Prez would have been on the podium somewhere

Agree. Gilbo's finishing was pretty bad, particularly in GF2. It may just be a matter of confidence though. His mechanics don't look all that bad.

Can anyone upload kicking efficiency stats?

They rate 75 percent as being ok but really depends on where the kick is on the field. We all know Grams kicking is terrible, however as he kicks into forward line Riewoldt will run hard to make it look good. I think they class a bad kick as 2 metres from target but if u have a gut runner marking the ball it flatters grams kicking

According to Eastern, "Goddard = Best in Comp. Best ever saint "

Ian Stewart's kicking helped him to three Brownlows, Goddard has never reached a top ten place yet. He is one of our best players, but not a champion - yet.

dont think he can use that. its more his decision to not look and just blaze away for the clouds.
