As plugger said... cant expect much at pick 90, this could be worthwhile.
they're all utilities these days +/- a few KPs, some smalls and a couple of rucks.

bloody good player IMHO tough! reasonably hard at it.
get his mind on the job and he can be anything!
at worst a solid H&A performer.
at best a match winner.

In all seriousness, i'm somehow related to Ryan Gamble.
Gradfathers brothers grandson, or something like that.
Relevance = 0.
He's a hadny player.
Out of all the discrded players, he's the one I was hoping would fall to the saints.

definitely plays taller than his height. he could be a third tall forward - but what he needs to do is to learn to tackle. he'll forever be compared with aaron hamill; similar build, similar game style, but he needs three or four tackles a game to make it. is it possible?

yep, that's what we'd all know him for, that sort of form is hard to defend against.

GREAT get!

It sounds like we expect him to be straight in. Read between the lines, McQualter's in trouble. Ross talked about revamping our forward line playing Roo and Kos as the talls with Gilbo, Milne, Schneider and Gamble. We only usually play six forwards, so it sounds like Mini's going to have to go back to the middle to get a game.

So lets just say Mini moves back to the middle, we have fairly good depth now on almost every line in 2011?

Competition for spots should be healthy, something we haven't had a great deal of.

I will say i have no idea how good or bad our picks are apart from Gamble and Polo but i dont see what changes from tonight to make our depth any better than at the end of last season. We will win the flag only if Steven, Armo, Geary and one or two others come on.

Lyon mentioned those three too.

Players take years to get senior games... Then actually contribute.

Look at montagna - Took 3 seasons to become regular... Took 6 to contribute...Took 8 to become elite.

we dont need those 3 to become elite. All we need is more than what Eddy/Mqualter supply and for them to do their job and we'll go well.

IF any of them have a break out year we are in the money...

I've always been a fan. Great hands.

afl.com.au highlights package of gamble

http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/ ... fault.aspx

Lyon feels the Saints have become too "one-dimensional" in attack and Gilbert's move up forward might be just the tonic his side needs to go an extra step.

"We just think he [Gilbert] was really exciting there [in the grand finals]," Lyon told afl.com.au. "We've got to do something a bit different and we think he can really deliver.

"With [James] Gwilt coming on down back and a few others developing and [Jason] Gram and [Brendon] Goddard off half-back, we just think he can really excite us down there.

"His speed and agility ... it's just been left to too few up there and the four smalls haven't been putting enough marking pressure on and teams that press force you to kick longer to talls."

Lyon was thrilled with the club's first four picks - the Saints had a priority to inject speed into their line-up - so with those needs met, Gamble and Polo were given the green light.

"It's a diluted draft so at the back end there are kids that you would probably rate as rookies. We can potentially get them as rookies but we had some needs to fill in our senior group," Lyon said.

"We think Gamble, out of an elite system like the Cats - couldn't break in and get past Stevie Johnson, Paul Chapman and those guys - but we think he can push through in our front half that we're going to reconstruct with Gilbert, [Justin] Koschitzke and [Nick] Riewoldt.

agree but it will be a number of factors including what you said and one of Polo/Gamble coming on strongly.

With our curent list, I reckon that Raph is a key. If he can finally come on and believe in himself and play consistent foot week in week out, we will be a much much better team. It's a big IF.

i agree that raph could improve us, but that position - running half-back - is one where we don't exactly have a shortage. there are many capable of playing that position: gilbert, lynch, fisher, dempster, simpkin, blake, goddard, winmar, clarke, gwilt, polo, ray, peake, dal santo, gram, gamble. yeah, some are better or worse down there, but i think we have a few options. third tall forward is much more important.

Yes we are well served, which probably helped seal Miles' fate.

And yes we do need pace but not just in the area that Luke was able to provide.
