Probably should go in the trivia thread,
but
What notable incident was Russell Jeffrey associated with in the 1990 R8 game at Moorabbin v Nth ??

Pity he didn't have a longer career at the Saints - the boy could play a bit.

Id put RJ in my top 10 Saints of all time.
Didnt have a long career but i have him up there with lenny, winmar, greg burns, david grant, g train.
probably one of the toughest players ive ever seen (in a fighting sense) and had some genuine pace and skill too. most opposition players were scared stiff of him.

From memory, I think Russell Jeffrey Kicked the ball through the NM goals as a rushed behind, and the Goal Umpire awarded a goal to North.
I also think we lost the game by less than a goal.
In this game we should have won easily.
The margin was 1.10 =16 points.
That year Lockett was ON FIRE.
He had already kicked 47 goals in the first 7 rounds, and with the Saints on track for the five looked like the 150 mark would go.
But unfortunately it all fell apart.
He kicked 5 against North but injured his knee in a collision with Russell Jeffrey in the Nepean Hwy forward line.
Missed the next EIGHT MATCHES
We lost of 6 of them.
Went from 4th to 9th spot on the ladder.
No Finals
No 150 goals
Probably all because RJ got in Plugger's way!

Prob that game a few years earlier at Arden St where our shot after the siren (to win the game) was touched by about 10 spectators but still paid as a goal !!!

You're right Muir_32.Muir_32 wrote:Geez........ Was it Robert Elliott who kicked that goal at Arden Street?
I was sitting on the outer wing and had a direct view behind Elliott's kick. As it sailed through for a point I reached down to grab my gear ready to make the disappointing trek back to the car.
Then..........

That game against North if I remember correctly was infamous for an after the game incident when Plugger belted Rick Watts in the Social Club. Could you imagine that today? Players get in the paper today for breaking a curfew, imagine belting a member of staff!!
Regarding Russell Jeffrey, he was a fantastic player. He came out of nowhere and left too soon afterwards but I remember his ferocious attack on the ball and great tackling. I remember him fondly. He goes down as someone I would liked to have seen play more for the Saints, a lot like John Peter Budge who i believe could have been anything.
