GWS "SECRET" Signing Window !!
Just like GC17 last year, GWS has a window from 31 October (this Sunday) until 18 November (National Draft Day) to sign one uncontracted player from each of the other clubs in the AFL. I suspect that they will sign a similar number (EIGHT) to GC 17.
So far there have been three names linked to GWS. They are;
DANE SWAN
SAM MITCHELL
ANDREW SWALLOW
Those in the media who speculated/had inside knowledge on the GC 17 signings got it pretty much spot on. Will it be the same with GWS? Will they target any saints players? Any whispers? Thoughts? !!

There has also been discussion that they won't follow the GC lead, and sign one massive high profile, ridiculously paid player, and go for a strong core of 8-10 very good players instead....
The Gary Ablett type signing is likely to come from a player the level and profile of BJ, Swan, Franklin, Selwood and perhaps 1 or 2 others... Im not sure of any of these guys' contract status, but that pool is shallow...
IMO GWS are likely to go for a number of guys the level of Montagna, 1 rung below the top echelon... If they can secure a number of these guys, all on 600-700k each, they'll have a strong, mature core...
Swallow falls into this catagory, as does Thomas, and potentially by seasons end '11, Frawley, Hill, Higgins (big ?) etc...

I think it was manufactured by the AFL so that players could sign with these new clubs whilst still contracted to their current clubs. In short, its the AFL breaking its own rules to give the new clubs a leg up. Now stop asking difficult questions !!saint66au wrote:Ive got a question..
If its a secret..how come we all know about it???

Are you accusing the AFL of being a two-faced highly corrupted organisation that is desperate for GC17 and GWS18 to win a flag within the next decade by any chance?Eastern wrote:I think it was manufactured by the AFL so that players could sign with these new clubs whilst still contracted to their current clubs. Or desperate NOT to go the way of the Bears and even now, it seems, Port Adelaide, whose coffers are perilously low.Eastern wrote:I think it was manufactured by the AFL so that players could sign with these new clubs whilst still contracted to their current clubs. Expansion needs to be done properly.
And none of this 'oh but what about building a tradition' s***...It's a franchise system. Has been for years. It's the way it is now.
"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'
the best player in the comp is out of contract at the end of 2011
can dominate forward, back or through the guts & has a touch of good old fashioned mongrel
will double his contract (about 600+ now) & is the ideal capt to build a team around & will only be about 26
say goodbye to our best & most important player...goddard
at the end of 2011 when hayes best is coming to a end & goddard gone we can all bend over & kiss our arse goodbye
without those 2 leading the pack we are farked

I thought BJ had signed for an additional two years, until the end of 2012?rogerwa wrote:the best player in the comp is out of contract at the end of 2011

I hope he isn't out of contract at the end of next year
Edit: I think you'll find BJ and Joey signed three year contracts at the start of, and including this year.
