The word is that despite the youngsters already gone that this is a very strong draft.

I heard Scott Clayton interviewed not long ago. He said it was a normal draft in terms of depth of talent but if anything the thing that distinguishes it is an evenness in terms of of groupings of types of players. That is it's not all defenders or tall fowards or mids. It's a good spread of everything.bobmurray wrote:saintsRrising wrote:bobmurray wrote:Some clubs are having a real good clean out.....even though it's a severely compromised draft it's not a deterrent for a good dump.....

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

not durable enough and will break down eventually.plugger66 wrote:What does that mean?ChicagoSaint wrote:that garlett will be another brad dick
does not have the body and will get found out.
just a comment on his elevation that's all.
no more than suggesting he is one serious shoulder away from the finish line (read: brad dick).
the handy types are your ellard's, lucas's and yarran's amongst the rest. built tough.
they'll be there when the whips are cracking in 2011 more than a hawthorn.
top four in 2011?

They've only cleared out one more senior spot than we have. I believe they have two spots outside the list for veterans they could use and we have one.
Massive shakeups seem par for the course under Ratten anyway. He seems to like to make a few changes every week, win or lose. None of these are particularly shocking or interesting, unlike the Hawthorn ones.

This year Gold Coast have been allowed to sign 12 kids who would normally have been in this draft.St Ick wrote:...are you assuming its severly comprimised? From all reports its quite the deep draft, yes, GC obviously have a number of picks, but good players will be available deep into the draft.
Those kids would now be over 18 2/3 years old at the end of this year.
The minimum age for this draft is 18 years old at the end of this year.
On top of that Gold Coast have 3 Northern Territory and 5 Queensland zone selections before this draft even starts.
That means there is no value left in Queensaland or Northern Territory.
Gold Coast has already gutted at least 15 players who would have gone top 40.
They then get 9 more picks before St Kilda.
Then there are 14 other club first round picks ahead of St Kilda.
St Kilda's first pick will deliver about the 40th best kid in the country, 36th not including Queensland and Northern Territory.
And the second round pick wont be the the 57th best kid because it will be affected by compensation picks to clubs that have been raided by Gold Coast.
Think somewhere in the low 60s.
It doesn't matter how "deep" this draft is, St Kilda will only get dregs.
A deep draft only means Gold Coast will be that much more impossible to beat from 2015 onwards when their Demetriou designed multiple premiership window opens.
I see Gold Coast and Greater Western Sydney playing off in the Grand Finals in the last half of this decade with the MCG half full.
