Sorry if the link has been posted elsewhere.
But it was a good - if depressing read.
Explains what went wrong.
Names the 10 turnovers in the first quarter, 2 of which led to goals.
There is also (in the paper) a hearbreaking diagram showing where each of our points was kicked from.
Just about all within 40m of goal and each quite gettable.

Gee so great to read insightful, informative footy news in the media.
Roos nicely tells us all what we know......we are carrying to many players who are not up to AFL standard...lets face it guys like Mqualter, Eddy and
Peake wouldnt get a game elsewhere.....yet we expect them to be Premiership players....
I also reckon some of our B Grade stars are very borderline:
Jones
Kosi
Dempster
Zac
Ray
Gram
Roos spells it out brillaintly.
The good news is we are a few smart trades and development of some talent in our kids away from improving this bottom area but it requires some smart navigation...

I believe he is getting a gig on OTC. Too bad about the other muppets beside him. Don't even start me on those 2 after some of the comments that have been drip fed to me since our loss by family and friends (still refuse to listen or read anything in the media myself directly).SainterK wrote:Looking forward to his insight on FoxsportsTeflon wrote:Gee so great to read insightful, informative footy news in the media.

Jones is one of the best tagers in the game, he played injuried in the gf, so did gram, and zac is the best option we have for fb, played very well through the finals series, after a poor early part of the season due to poor preseason.

As a "role" player Jones is great and Id keep him for sure but lets not get our stars and borderine players mixed up. Offensively Jones gives us f@Rk all and cant kick - lets not BS about it and just say it.kaos theory wrote:FFS, jones, gram & Zac are NOT borderline.Teflon wrote:Gee so great to read insightful, informative footy news in the media.

Zac played some good games and right now is our best option at FB - does that mean he's a better prospect than young Silvagni???? I dont think so. Not to long ago Zac had everyone here nervous as hell with his efforts and ability to lose his man when the balls in flight - that to me is borderline, not a top line FB right at this time (that may change but lets judge him on overall output). In short he's been ok - not startling brilliant.
Which leaves me with Gram.
You may get excited bout his GF Game last year or his dash's through the middle. Way to often I get less excited bout long bombs to nowhere... and helicopter punts that look like they are about to float out of the stadium.....IMO in today's modern footy the ability to NOT give the ball back to the opposition is paramount (just go back and re watch the GF or Collingwood at all this year if you want to see where they get their goals from - TURNOVER). Gram turns it over far to much to be considered A Grade for mine.
We have an abundance of players poor by foot. On their day they can be great. On an off day they'll give the opposition the ball way to often. For mine, in conjunction with pace we simply need to recruit better ball users.

Roos does write an extremely good article... but it doesn't say what you think it does. What he actually says is the opposite: that most Saints didn't play up to their ability, and wouldn't have left the ground satisfied with their efforts.Teflon wrote:Gee so great to read insightful, informative footy news in the media.

From the article:
"The [Saints] best six is very hard to find. Brendon Goddard and Hayes were again standouts, Gilbert, Fisher, Gwilt and Dawson probably round out the top six. But clearly too much was left to too few.
Of the rest, who could you say played at or around their capability?
Perhaps Jason Blake, Sean Dempster and Schneider.
That is nine players at best who could walk off the field reasonably happy with their own performance."
