rumour File - King to ruck

Post: # 1004614Post saintly »

Yep, that was on the rumour file this morning. Steven King will be named in the ruck or on the bench.

but doubt it. why would you play king instead of Mcevoy. i can see playing Stanley instead of mcevoy but not king.

Mickey Mouse is also tipped to play on the back flank.

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. I heard a rumour that no one will know for certain until the final team sheet comes out just before the game, and that in the meantime there will be countless rumours, red herrings and theories... but in the end the only change will likely be Ben for Gards.

Quick as. Booming kick. Real line breaker.

Rhyming Slang, surely??

How long since King has played? I know he provides leadership, experience, a tough body etc, but Ben has gone past him as a footballer IMO.

king may be an injury risk as iirc he had a bad hamstring this season.

I'd play ben, but ross knows best,

The reason for King would be simply that he is a genuine ruckman that goes in and crashes the opposition, gets hit outs to advantage and in doing so denies the pie midfield first use.

That said I'm not sure King's body is still up to it. Big Mac is heaps better around the ground though.

As I said on the open training thread, his body language appeared weird, not like someone who realised he was a chance to play in a GF anyway.

It wouldn't surprise me if Ben didn't play, it would surprise me if King did...

Are you allowed to coach (even assistant coach) if you're serving a suspension as a player?

If so, I can think of a reason as to why he might play.

Absolute joke - and if true the saints should be investigated for throwing the game......

I read the article on King poss playing in the HUN online. Talk about a story coming from no where. They asked Blake whether King was a chance and all he really said was that everyone is a chance and you never know. Greg Hutchison said much the same thing - next thing you know you have the headlines trumpeting 'King still a chance!'

Wouldn't think so. But, all is fair in love, war and premierships!!!

Wouldn't surprise me if King did play, wouldn't surprise me if he didn't.

As Sainterk mentioned, he did seem to be 'up and about' at training this week.

Whatever happens at the selection table, it is all about the team winning the premiership, not pleasing individuals. I suspect King is being looked at purely for the purpose of wearing Jolly down in contests as early as possible then the idea would be to alternate the Kosi and Blake in the ruck later in the game. Big Ben hasn't quite got the tough old body and the bulk to do the job on Jolly yet, but he is the future and will get his chance...I hope he gets selected though!

just play ben, he has kicked critical goals for us all season, ie hawthorn and bulldogs and does well in the ruck and is a target up forward especially when the opposition is roo and kozi conscious

beyond that has he played in a losing saints match?

We play King, we lose... Simple as that really...

And once we've lost, Lyon would have undone all the great things he's done with our club by that one stupid selection... His position would have to be looked at..

It cannot happen...
