1948: Melbourne, the underdogs, finished the game with the ball in their attack, but couldn't will a point. Essendon also kicked badly during that game. Melbourne had previously lost badly to Essendon and devised a pressure game style to unnerve the fancied Bombers. The bombers were the home team for the first and replay GFs. Melbourne defeated Essendon convincingly in the replay GF.
Finally, St Kilda were the wooden spooners in the 1948 season.
1977: Collingwood entered the Grand Final seven years after their previous GF. Collingwood finished top of the ladder, whilst the Kangaroos finished 3rd. Kangaroos had lost the previous GF (1976) to Carlton. Collingwood were 27 points up at three quarter time. Kangaroos came back and drew the game. Collingwood were the home team for both the first and replay GFs. Kangaroos defeated Collingwood convincingly in the replay GF.
Finally, St Kilda were the wooden spooners in the 1977 season.
Weird & promising coincidences with the 1948 and 1977 dr
