Re: Match thread. Saints V Bombers

Byrnes looked a million to one to kick that - but it was more like ten million to one.

But at last a straight kick by Owens even if he didn't hit it cleanly.

And then a dropped sitter but still a goal.

He is the exactly the type of player we have been wanting for the last 15-20 years.

He’s out of the box!
Alas, I agree. He has pace, can take a mark, is a good kick and has that extra ingredient - Spark!

Re: Phillipou

Yeah was missing for most of last night, I don't think a short run in the 2s would do him any harm, let him dominate a bit at a lower level and gain some confidence. He was pick 10, not pick 50. I fail to see just what his AFL level strengths are. He's too short for a key position player these days...

Re: Round 2 - Saints be Pies - Match Day thread

This is likely to be a blowout. Our skills are too poor hence the number of turnovers. We are one ruckman short. Jack Sinclair into the centre is our only hope.

Re: Three crucial blown calls by maggot #4

The Bonner decision was No 9. I thought he actually fumbled the ball in trying to pick it up. The Stocker decision was in the back. Stocker had his hands on the ball before Dangerfield even entered the contest. The holding the ball decision was a result of the umpire who paid the free being behind t...

Re: Rating our players vrs Cats

NWM should be on a wing. He is too easily moved off the ball in a backline contest. Bonner looks OK - can take a mark and is a very good kick. His passes were low and hard. But he too is light for a backman. Our back six seem skinny compared to the top sides. Howard only makes that worse, and he fum...

He's a dud - just like Higgins.

We have some skill-less triers.

Our last win at KP was in 1999 with Tim Watson as coach to take us to 3rd on the ladder after Round 10.

I think 4 weeks would have been reasonable. That's how many weeks he would have got under a previous "points" system. But concussion is now viewed more seriously so 7 weeks is now the base for this action. The perversion remains Maynard's outcome - an obvious case of bias. He did everythin...

Two full back GF captains!

The only Premiership team full back captain that I can recall is David Dench. This year will see another one as both teams have fullback captains. Verdun Howell was VC in 1966 but, by then, he was on the half back flank.

He played well. His pace in foot races to get to contests was especially noteworthy. But he wasn't the player who cost GWS the game. That was Lachie Ash (no.7). Last week, I can remember thinking that you can't have someone like him on the backline - he gives the ball away with poor disposal or poor...

Re: Would Ross Lyon make the difference at Melbourne?

If only we had bought Steven May and not Dougal Howard. Melbourne seemed to be robbed of one goal and possibly two. I couldn't see any bent fingers in the one that was declared touched and Max Gawn hit to ball onto the post but could have been behind the line when he did it. It shows how teams must ...

I hope his eye is OK after someone stuck a thumb in it. He had to play with his eye closed for most of the second half. He has had his best year in my opinion - certainly his most consistent.
