Re: Armo

Armitage has had a disappointing season in many ways. His offensive output is pretty minimal. As mentioned, his disposal isn't horrendous...some of his field kicking is very neat, though never penetrating. His set shots on goal have been very good this year too. His defensive output is very importan...

I too would love to hear others' thoughts on him. I know nothing about the kid.

Re: The player you are most excited about? why?

Gresham. McCartin. For pure football ability, these two are as good as I can remember at their age (I started watching only around the mid 90s)...right up there with the first glimpses of a young Brendon Goddard. Gresham's ability in traffic and creative use of the ball are special by any standard. ...

Re: Our finals equation

Put simply, bad umpiring without a doubt has prevented us from playing in the finals in 2016 I agree. Though no more than some of our own bad performances did. But it remains the case that had we not been ripped off against North the first time and against Hawthorn that we would be in the eight. Me...

Re: #32 - Coleman medalist 2018 and beyond!

He still needs to work on his goalkicking routine before we can get too excited. I still see him pulling back on shots of short distance, bleeding his momentum and asking the ball to fade away on him. Also psychologically, he needs to embrace the shot on goal a bit more. That will come with time, bu...

Re: Maybe Paddy Crashes the Packs Too Hard

He doesn't have the tank to make two repeat leads of 30m one after the other at the moment. That would be really handy for him to have so he does need to increase his running capacity a little bit. As far as his weight goes, let's leave him a monster. Naturally he is a very big boy and it's probably...

Re: 2017 Captain - serious thread

Another thing. I don't think it's something the players should get to vote on. It's not a popularity contest. The club should make a correct call on it. The players should definitely get a say. They need to play for their skipper, listen to him. There's no better endorsement than the respect of you...

Re: 2017 Captain - serious thread

The skipper is as much about off-field as it is on-field. Players who play like leaders will always carry on playing that way, but a captain needs to have some media skills, be the face of the club, appeal to prospective sponsors and all that. Based on how they play, I reckon geary, steven and Welle...

Re: Team v Tigers

Interested to see how we go without Hickey. I've been saying to myself more and more as the season goes on that he might just be our most important player. I prefer Sinclair to Lonie as a player in all respects, (and Minchington to both as of right now) but trust the selectors are making good calls....

Re: The flaws in Richo's tackling/pressure game

The other thing to add about gameplan is that we are awful at kick-ins. Whether we have just kicked a point and are defending the opposition or (and even worse) when they have scored a point and we are kicking in. We are terrible. I'm sure of it. If anyone finds stats on this I would love to see the...

Re: The flaws in Richo's tackling/pressure game

?? You make it sound as if this high pressure brand of footy is some kind of new thing that we've come up with? All teams aim for an extreme level of intensity for 4 quarters. I'd be gravely concerned if our coach wasn't trying to implement a style of play that wasn't based on a non-negotiable of f...

Is it still the case that players are eligible from anywhere between 1 and 4 votes per match and that there is no limit on the number of players who can poll in a single game? I'm wondering which game will see the highest number of total votes given...Geelong? I think Jack Steven should win it. I re...

Re: Where were we, Sainters? Disappointing crowd.

I was trying to work out why are attendances are so low. I've been going for nearly 30 years and have attended most games this season. The trains are absolutely a reason especially when it's live on channel 7. Last night was the first time I've thought why bother. Our players and club in general ar...

Dunstan will become BM's next Hickey. Remember the "Ectomorph" posts stating Hickey will never make it? Dunstan will prove him wrong as well. Top quality young player, who is highly regarded by players and coaching staff, alike. And they'd know. Exactly! Just listen to Richo's press confe...

Re: Gresham and acres

Gresham and Acres were my two main observations leaving the ground today. Both looked great. Acres had leather poisoning in the first quarter and Gresham controlled the second quarter single handedly. He has all the tools already, Gresham. He isn't great in the air and he needs to improve his long k...

Re: that was infuriating!!!!!!

Just showed me that our midfield has a long way to go, and we also lack a strong fast run and spread midfielder, as once Jack Steven's influence is kept in check, the rest of the midfield looks slow and average. The stats pretty much showed we didn't get enough of the ball and I don't care about um...

He looked very good tonight. One of our best players. Still a little slow to react and still a little dicey with his touches but all of that will improve the more time he spends in the thick of things. Looked good tonight, a big positive.

Defended well. Pressure was good. Just smashed in the clearances...it's hard to score from a ball coming in to your D50 at the best of times, let alone as your only avenue to goal. Smashed at the clearances, consequently the ball movement wasn't great, hard to get a good look and goal and when we di...

I don't see any reason to hate on the Dogs. They're a very good team, very hard to play against and admirable in many ways. The effort and execution from all of the players were outstanding. The tackle number wasn't the highest ever but they stuck really well and some of them were brutal. The running was massive...couldn't ask for much more from the players. The one-on-one contests, particularly from our defenders, were ...
