It's not about his effort in the ruck, it's his technique. He simply does not know how to body an opponent in a ruck contest to give himself an advantage. He often smashes into an opponent and just bounces off, leaving his opponent to stand still and tap the ball to advantage. I wouldn't use him as ...

Koschitzke and the ruck

Well, he keeps insisting on being a ruckman, but Blake is a far superior ruck than Kosi. My understanding is that he has agitated regularly with his two recent coaches about playing in the ruck, but really, he is utterly ineffectual as a ruckman. As well as his inability to tap the ball (let alone g...

Barks may have marginally less to work with that Daniher, but our forward line has been out of position so much that it makes me want to scream when I'm at the games. Barker needs to understand that our half-backs can't kick the ball 90 metres, and you actually do have to push your forwards up the g...

You don't have to worry about trying to tanks. We don't need to. We will lose the next three games purely on the comparative form of the teams we are playing, anyway. We are hopeless in the west, and Freo always beat us there, even when we're supposedly playing good football. Adelaide have our measu...

1. Sack the entire coaching panel, except for Silvagni 2. Reinstate Grant Thomas as coach, and get Cripps and Terry Daniher back as assistants. Get Daniher to look after the forward line. Bring back Bundy while we're at it. Offer Neil Balme mega-bucks to be our football manager 3. De-list the follow...

Allen not good enough? Gee, that's a really big early call on a guy who's played 3 games. I can recall people on this forum expecting Barry Brooks to kick on after five years in the system!!! Allen will stay on the list, and will be a better and more important player than McQualter, Gwilt, Eddy, and...

Gilbert - a goer who lacks class and turns the ball over. His decision-making has deteriorated since last year Eddy - tries hard, but is he really any better than Leigh Fisher? No breakaway speed, lacks penetration in his kicking and has no evasive skills. Sounds just like Fisher to me. Plenty of pe...

I was there. Harvey got about 14 touches and the one I remember was that he was just forward of the centre when he received a hospital handpass from a team mate. But, instead of panicing, he baulked slightly to his left and handballed over his right should to a team mate running forward and we got a...

I had previously posted that I would reserve my judgement on Ross Lyon until round 22. I cannot reserve it anymore. We have the most pathetic coaching panel in the AFL. How can the players win with that kind of forward set-up? How many times must a backman look up field to see no-one to kick the blo...

I'm reserving my judgement on Ross Lyon until round 22, but my patience has bee sorely tested for the past 35 weeks of football. Some terribly harsh judges on here.

What did you all expect?

15 marks, 5 tackles, and 7 goals?

Gee, for a first gamer playing key position, that was a most acceptable debut. No worse than Riewoldt's first game. No worse than Koschitzke's first game.

I think Ross Lyon was happy with him.

I don't think anyone ranks Dal Santo in the top 20 midfielders. We only have one in that category now, and it's Hayes. I also think that Jumping to the conclusion that we should trade Dal Santo is nonsense. How about we see it for what it is - a very talented player who has let the team things slip ...

If we had all players fit, and we were still going in to tonight with the selected line-up, we could have a reserves team starting 18 that looks like this: B: L.Fisher Miles R.Clarke HB: Howard Maguire X.Clarke C: Chivers Dal Santo Fiora HF: Schneider Koschitzke Steven F: Milne Gehrig Ferguson R: M....

He has BY FAR the best endurance at the club. I watched a couple of pre-season training sessiond in late January, and he was doing a combination of 200m sprints, 400m laps of the oval, and then what looked like an extended beep test. This was within a group of other midfielders and they simply could...

I see Eddy's role as a tagger. Not polished enough to play as a rebounding half back. Body-wise, he's easily mistaken for Goddard on the field - same hunched shoulders, same beaky nose. It's when he kicks it you'll realise it's not Goddard. McQualter simply cannot play in defense. He is too short fo...

Our coaching staff will be looking for things that may not be standing out to the average punter. There are plenty of Casey players (not St Kilda reserves) who are playing really good looking footy, but will never have what it takes to step up to AFL level. Being a super player in the VFL means very...

Getting rid of 10 players is highly unlikely, and I think Meher Baba's argumnents are sensible. If you look at the higly speculatice draft picks, ie picks beyond number 70, the track record of all clubs over the past 7 or 8 years is unremarkable at the very best. Rookie draft selections have provide...
